Our learning.

Overview
Our key topic for each term will be as follows;
Term 1 and 2: Stone Age to Iron Age.
Term 3 and 4: The Shang Dynasty and Along the Silk Road.
Term 5 and 6: The Rainforest and The Maya.

Homework.

Homework is an essential tool in enabling your child to become an independent learner. Homework will be given in a variety of subject areas such as mathematics, literacy/spellings, history or geography and will often relate to this term’s topic. We will also, on occasions, give your child long term projects which they may do over a few weeks.

Homework will be given out every Friday and will be expected to be handed in on the following Wednesday. Your child has a homework folder in which to complete or display their homework.

This week's homework:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     To support our work in mathematics the children can access the following two websites:-

http://www.mymaths.co.uk

https://activelearnprimary.co.uk/login

Tasks will be set to support the work we do in class during the week. The children have their own personal login links for each of these sites.

Spellings.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         A list of ten spellings will be given out with homework each week. Children should practise their spellings throughout the week and will be tested every Friday. We recommend that children spend at least five minutes every day learning their spellings using 'Look, cover, write, check'.

Reading.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Children are also expected to be reading for fifteen minutes each day at home with an adult. Please record any comments made during reading into the home school diary. When your child needs their book changing they should place their book bag in the box provided in each classroom. We aim to read with your child once a week one to one and once a week as part of a guided reading group.

Multiplication tables.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     It is also very beneficial for children to be practising their multiplication tables 2 times tables right through to 12 times tables.                                                                   In addition to multiplication tables, reading time from clocks and watches and revising how many days there are in a week, different months and a year will greatly aid your child in their mathematical understanding
