Fires update:

A Recovery Committee has been formed to address the needs of the communities impacted by the fires. The Bruxner Highway and Jennings Area Recovery Committee, covering Wallangarra, Tabulam, Drake and Jubullum, includes sub-committees addressing Health and Wellbeing, Infrastructure Waste and the Environment, and combined regional Animal and Agriculture. The complete document is available on this website.

A community meeting will be held at the Tenterfield Memorial Hall in Molesworth Street, starting with a BBQ from 5.00 pm on Wednesday, 27 March. The meeting will continue at 6.00 pm with the NSW Rural Fire Service holding a de-brief on the recent fire events, to discuss and receive feedback. Any community member or service provider who was impacted by the fire events are welcome to attend.

Tenterfield parks are to remain closed for the foreseeable future following the fires. There is a real risk from damaged trees in the Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo and Basket Swamp National Parks. Advice from National Parks is to stay away and to take note of barriers and warning signs. Check the nationalparks.nsw.gov.au website for updates.

Telstra has announced an assistance package for its residential and small business customers in northern NSW who have lost services due to bushfires.

The Tenterfield Shire Council has issued a warning about any major clean-up of properties effected by bushfires because of concerns about possible contaminants, including asbestos.
