James is an Assistant Professor at the School of Economics at University College Dublin where he is employed as an Ad Astra Fellow. He also has a research affiliation with the Department of Public Health, Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam. He is an economist by training and his research primarily addresses the cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) of cancer screening, model simulation methods and the use of cost-effectiveness thresholds by policy makers. James is a member of Ireland's National Screening Advisory Committee convened following the Scally Report in response to the CervicalCheck controversy.
