Welcome to The Resource Room

Here at Holy Family School we have a resource program, for students with learning differences that qualify them for an individualized educational plan(IEP). Each student has an IEP and that is reviewed annually.  I am a certified special education teacher and my name is Ms. Jean Reagan.  I am here to work with students with special needs such as a Learning Disability or Attention Deficit Disorder.  I work with individuals and small groups on goals that are designed on an individual basis.  I provide further instruction or reteaching to students either in the classroom or in the resource room.  I also assist students with any testing modifications that the school district has identified as needed by the student.
Students usually have a few tests during a week.  Teachers and students let me know when these will be so I can review, set up study guides, make vocabulary review cards with them, and adjust the schedule so the student is able to use all the modifications that are needed.
When larger projects come up, it is a good idea to start early and utilize time wisely. One way to do this is to help your child plan backwards.  You start looking at the date the project is due on a calendar.  Then discuss what needs to be done when.  Your child may still need help with this even in middle and high school.  You and your child can set up realistic progress points and work to keep to a time line.  The teachers and myself are always available to qualify and clarify any questions you may have.  Discuss with the teacher early if you feel your child will need some additional time or modification to complete the assignment.
All students should use a planner to record all homework assignments, and it is critical that you review the planner every day.  This will give you and your child a clearer picture of the expectations of the teacher.
