Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I'm so excited to have you in our class this year. This is my 16th year as an elementary teacher! As a substitute teacher, I worked with students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. As a classroom teacher, I've previously taught 1st, 3rd, and this will be my 3rd year teaching 4th grade. I think 4th grade has been the most fun so far! Several years ago, I decided to go back to Stanislaus State University to continue my education. In 2013, I completed my Masters in Education and Curriculum and a Reading Specialist Credential. Last summer, I was hired as an Reading instructor at Modesto Junior College, where I teach vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies to adults. I currently live in Modesto with my husband, 3 kids, and 2 dogs. While I tried to do as much relaxing as I could this summer, I still did as much traveling and playing as I could. I went to Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Cherry Lake, Pinecrest Lake, did some bike riding at New Melones Lake, went deep sea fishing, camped, had niece and nephew sleepovers, lots of BBQ's, birthday parties, swam, and did lots of planning for the new school year!

I'm so excited for this school year! We get to learn about so many interesting subjects in 4th grade. I strive to make our assignments as fun and meaningful as possible so students are excited about their learning. While not everything we do will always be exciting or easy, I try to encourage students to learn from their mistakes as mistakes are just part of the learning process! Without a whole lot of mistakes being made by a whole lot of people, we wouldn't have so many cool inventions today! The slinky, chocolate chip cookies, penicillin, potato chips, microwaves, fire works, x-rays, and so many more!

Please use this site to check information about homework assignments, find resources for studying and researching, find out about upcoming events, and anything else important to know this year. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me! I can always be reached at jwilliams@sylvan.k12.ca.us or call during school hours to leave me a message. I will always try to call you back by the end of the day if not by the following day.
