Overview: Woodshop is a trimester long course in which students explore the process of creating projects from wood. This course stresses SAFETY FIRST. We will explore the methods of design and production. Fundamental aspects include safety procedures, measurement, creation, assembly, and finishing techniques. Students will learn to safely use both hand tools and power equipment.

Textbook: Exploring Woodworking. We will refer to and read parts of the textbook during the trimester. Books stay in class unless instructor has given specific permission to take the book home.

Grades: Families can check grades anytime on the AERIES PORTAL on the district website. Signature pages, tests, and other assignments = 50% of total grade Project(s) = 50% of total grade. NO EXTRA CREDIT IS OFFERED.

Homework: Studying for SAFETY TEST is a must at home. You can not use tools, machines, equipment, or work in the shop until you have passed the SAFETY test. Incomplete assignments (except for wood projects) must be completed at home.

Lockers: Students will be assigned a locker, most students will share a locker with one other student. Students may provide a lock but give combination or spare key to instructor.

Woodshop Dress Code: EVERYDAY: No open-toed shoes. (it is recommended that students keep a pair of closed-toe shoes in their shop locker if he/she wears sandals/open toe shoes.) On shop work days: Long sleeves and long hair must be secured. (it is recommended that students keep hair ties in locker.) Dangling earrings, necklaces, and rings must be removed. Sweatshirt/shirt strings must be secure.

Supplies: All supplies are in the shop. I-pads are expected to be charged each night.

We use GOOGLE CLASSROOM extensively in our classroom.
