St Patrick's Day Celebrations

St. Patrick's Day across Australia will be celebrated on Saturday March 17. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

The school was a sea of green as all were encouraged to wear plenty of green on Friday to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at Villa Maria. We raised over $1000 with all proceeds going to help the Marist Brothers build a hostel for children and youth, so that they can attend school, in Pailin, Cambodia. This will help to open educational opportunities for these children in rural villages.

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all!
