Shrove Tuesday

posted 14 Feb 2015, 16:53 by Michelle Virgona
This Tuesday, 17th February, is Shrove Tuesday. It is the last day before Lent, which is a time when people traditionally fasted and avoided food containing eggs and dairy products. Families would have a feast on Shrove Tuesday and would eat food containing the fasted ingredients so that it would not go to waste. Pancakes became associated with this day because they were a dish that could use up perishable foods including eggs, fats and milk.

Each year this day also marks the commencement of Villa Maria's Project Compassion Appeal with our Pancake Tuesday fundraiser. Breakfast begins from 7:30-8:45 am with the following items for purchase:
Pikelets = a gold coin donation
Flavoured milk = $2
Coffee = Small $3 and Large $4

We hope to see you there!
