MacKillop House Celebrations

On Tuesday we celebrated the feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. This great woman swept across this land, inspired with the love of God and determined to bring this love to the many needs of Australia in the 19th Century. The rural children became her particular focus as she brought education to many of them. Her humanness, her determination and her certainty that God was with her also made her aware of the many other needs that called. Hence the famous saying “Never see a need without doing something about it” became her guiding principle.

So many people recognise the spirit of this great woman and want to continue her work today. Her life was an inspiring story of loyalty, obedience to her beliefs, service to the poor and a love for rural folk. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop reminds me that we must never get carried away with ourselves and that giving to others is what really counts. The school celebrated on Tuesday with the MacKillop House Outreach activities.
