Feast Day

On Sunday the Parish celebrated its feast day with an outdoor Mass and morning tea. The Feast of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a memorial celebrated in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church on 12th September. It was first established in 1683 to commemorate the victory of troops, placed under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Battle of Vienna. (The day was also commemorated in Vienna by creating the now world famous “croissant” pastry.)

The feast day is another occasion to celebrate the daily help that Mary continues to give to all of us through the exceptional privileges available to her from God.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
