Volunteer Information

As a Sydney Catholic School, Villa Maria is dedicated to upholding the values and practices that create safe learning environments for students. We are committed to the vision of the National Safe Schools that "all Australian schools are safe, supportive and respectful teaching and learning communities that promote student wellbeing".

Ensuring our school is a child safe school goes to the heart of our faith and core purpose. "Child safe schools" refers to a more contemporary understanding of "child protection". It involves a proactive and holistic approach to ensure Villa Maria is a safe place for children in all aspects.

A child safe school has effective and accessible child safe policies and practices. It is an environment that requires appropriate behaviours from those involved with our schools. It encourages and welcomes disclosures about high risk behaviour. We want our schools to be a place where each child feels safe, respected and listened to by adults.

As a volunteer you are required to undergo one induction session that is offered at the beginning of each school year. Furthermore you must:
  • Read the Child Safe Schools Resource Kit (applicable to your role)
  • Complete the Safe School Expectations Form
  • Sign the Villa Maria Code of Ethics Form
