St Brendan’s Primary School was opened in 1888 by the Sisters of St Joseph. It was originally housed in a terrace on Johnston Street, before moving to the present site in Collins Street. It continued under the leadership of the Sisters until 1975, when the first lay Principal was appointed.
‘Do your best and God will bless your efforts…’ (1889)
Our School Values
Our school motto is ‘Veritas’ – truth. This core value of truth is one we hold dear at St Brendan’s and it is at the centre of all we do. We look for truth in each other, in our learning and in our teaching.
Our Josephite tradition and the following values underpin the teaching and learning in our school.
- Belonging - We value an inclusive, connected and safe learning community where each person feels supported and confident enough to take risks and make mistakes
- Success - We value and celebrate achievement at all levels. We believe that every person needs to experience success on a regular basis in order to grow and develop
- Respect - We value strong, positive relationships that are built out of care, consideration and mutual trust. We believe in the importance of open communication and transparent decision making.
