Curriculum

St Pius’ provides a curriculum which focuses on the child as learner. We place a strong emphasis on developing a child’s independence and helping them to achieve high expectations.

St Pius’ is committed to offering a differentiated curriculum in which student voice and choice are highly valued. Learning environments promote collaboration, risk-taking, critical thinking and personalised learning for all students.

We are registered by the NSW Board of Studies (BOS) which sets the learning requirements for each stage of primary school. The four stages are:

  • Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten)
  • Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2)
  • Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4)
  • Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6).

The NSW BOS syllabuses state what must be taught in these six Key Learning Areas :

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • Human Society and its Environment (HSIE)
  • Creative Arts
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
Religious Education
A journey in faith forms the basis of everything we do at St Pius’. Our students, teachers and parents search with our eyes wide open, serve with humble hearts and soar as ambassadors of Christ. We follow the Religious Education Curriculum of the Archdiocese of Sydney.
Celebration is an important part of our Catholic faith and our community comes together to celebrate school prayers and Masses at St Pius’ Catholic Church, which is located across the road from our school. There are strong links between the school and parish.
