For Parents

There is a high level of parental involvement in the life of the school. Many parents assist in classrooms across a range of Key Learning Areas as well as with excursions and special events. We value and recognise our parents as the first educators of their child.

In 2011 a School Advisory Council (SAC) and Social Fundraising Committee (SFC) were introduced after consultation with the community.

School Advisory Council (SAC)

The SAC is the Principal’s committee involving parent representatives and Rev Dr Bieniek Janusz, the Parish Administrator. The main purpose of the SAC is to be responsive to the strategic and visionary dimension of our faith community of St Mary’s Star of the Sea Primary and St Michael’s Parish Hurstville.

This group meets approximately once a month at the school.

Social Fundraising Committee (SFC)

The SFC, under the leadership of the Assistant Principal and in collaboration with a Co-Ordinator, is the major fundraising committee in the school.

Grade volunteers connect with other parents of the same grade to encourage their support and participation.

These new structures reflect compliance with a directive of the Catholic Education Office, Sydney and changing local circumstances. Both structures have significantly different functions, responsibilities and accountabilities.
