OASIS PROJECT
Throughout 2012-13 creative and talented students, parents and teachers from St Mary’s community have gathered together with the guidance of Artist “Wanda Grein” to contribute to a collaborative Mosaic Artwork to decorate the entrance of our school.

The Mural is now complete and we would like to share with you the hidden symbols and meanings behind the five panels.

School Liturgies
The school celebrates two whole-school Masses each term and holds liturgies for other significant events such as NAIDOC, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents’ Mass, ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day week.

Year 6 school leaders are commissioned at the Opening School Mass in early Term 1 each year.  An end of year/ Year 6 Graduation Mass is held at the end of Term 4 each year.

Primary classes celebrate a class Mass each term and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Sacramental Programs
Parents are invited to enrol eligible students in the Parish-based sacramental programs: First Reconciliation
(Year 2), First Holy Communion (Eucharist) (Year 3) and Confirmation (Year 6). The programs consist of a parent information evening, four weeks of family-based catechesis and the celebration of the Sacrament.

First Holy Communion and Confirmation take place during a Sunday parish Mass, and First Reconciliation takes place on a Tuesday evening in November. The dates for the programs are published at the start of the school year in February.

The sacramental programs are for baptised Catholic children. Children who have been christened in other denominations – Anglican, Uniting Church, etc -- are reminded that they receive their sacraments in their own Churches. There have been cases where one or other parent chooses to be received into the Catholic Church. For that there is a special program – the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults(RCIA). Children have also asked to be received along with their mother or father, and we offer a special children’s preparation course so that they can be received along with their parent.

Partnerships
Throughout St Mary's history we have continued to develop our local community links. Our students work with the parish and community groups. We have a community partnership with the local restaurateur, David Bitton.

This partnership will see the implementation of an educational program with a focus on healthy nutrition, home sciences and sustainability.

We have close links with the local feeder pre-schools and primary schools in the area.

We are also developing partnerships with our feeder secondary college. Our Stage 3 students have opportunities throughout the year to experience high school immersion programs.

Each year the local businesses donate their goods and services very generously towards our fundraising efforts and they support the bi-annual school concert.
