For Parents

Parent Partnerships

The Parent Partnership Group plays a very active role in providing funds for equipment in the school and in giving general support in a multitude of ways. By being an involved participant in the work of the Group, parents have the opportunity to meet other families in the school and enjoy the ownership and social contact that are a part of our vibrant community. It is a great way to be part of a caring family community.

All parents are encouraged to attend meetings throughout the year. These meetings are held at the school. It is in the interests of our continued community spirit that support of all the functions organised by the Parent Partnership Group is encouraged. The Parent Partnership Group organises several fundraising events throughout the year such as sausage sizzles, disco's, and many other social events.

Parent Group

Monday mornings starting at 9am

At St John's we provide for our parents many opportunities to be a part of their children's school life. Our parents meet regularly for formal and informal chats enabling them to discuss a variety of issues. There are opportunities to discover how children learn in today's world and also participate in a variety of workshops.

Forget the washing, ironing, cleaning and cooking for a few hours and enjoy the company of the other parents in our school community.

Being a parent in today's society, although exciting, can be challenging but with friendly support we can make a difference in our own and our children's lives.

Both mothers and fathers are very welcome to join in with us.

Playgroup

Tuesday mornings starting at 9am

Due to the multicultural nature of our school community and the recent arrival in Australia of many of our families we provide a fabulous playgroup for pre-school aged children.

The aim of this playgroup is to:

  • encourage parent participation in their children's education
  • enable the parents to learn the skiills they need to prepare their pre-schoolers for school and the ever changing curriculum
  • help the parents build strong bonds between themselves and their children
  • build and support networks for the parents
  • develop the children's social skills
  • improve the children's language and motor skills
  • assist the children to make new friends and have fun together.

We are grateful to the staff from St Anthony's Family Care Centre at Croydon for helping us to provide this service.
