For Parents

Welcome parents! On the next few pages you will find valuable information to assist you and your child during your time at St Gertrude's.

At St Gertrude's we aim to foster a positive relationship between home and school, as we believe the benefits contribute to improvement in student learning outcomes.

As a parent you are the first and most important teacher in leading your child into personal faith. We encourage parents to speak to their children about God and take them to Mass on a regular basis.

There is a high level of parental interest and involvement in the life of the school. Many parents assist in classrooms across a range of Key Learning Areas as well as with excursions and special events.

School Hours

It is very important for your child's learning that he/she arrives at school on time.

Classes begin at 8.50am for Years K-6. Students who arrive after this time are required to sign in at the school office before proceeding to their class.

Classes finish at 3.10pm for all students. Students who need to leave before this time must be signed out by an adult in the school office, before leaving the school grounds.

Before School

The gates at the front entrance will open at 8.00am. Those children arriving will sit and wait in the undercroft until supervision begins at 8.20am.

After School

Children in Kindergarten and Year 1 are dismissed at 3.05pm from their classrooms. Children in Years 2 – 6 are dismissed from the assembly area at 3.10pm. Supervision will continue until 3:30pm.

Playground Supervision

Supervision commences at 8.20am each day and ceases at 3.30pm. All children should be picked up by 3.30pm. If for any reason they are not collected they will go to the school office where they can be collected by their parents when you arrive.

Before and After School Care

Before and after school care is a service for St Gertrude's students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The program is run by a private provider, Extend, on site in the St Gertrude's school hall and playground. In the morning it begins at 7:00am and goes until supervision begins on the playground at 8.20am. In the afternoon it operates from 3.10pm till 6.00pm. For further information regarding enrolments and the program provided please inquire in the school office.

School Newsletter

The fortnightly newsletter is our main means of communication with parents. It is hoped this will keep you up-to-date with things happening within the school and in the wider field of education. The newsletter is sent to all families via email. Updates will be posted as required.

Parents and Friends

The Parents and Friends Association meets on the first Monday of each month in the staff room. The meeting begins at 7:00pm and will conclude by 8.30pm. The meetings focus on parents involvement in the school, fundraising, and other events which affect the running of the school. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.
