Newman Selective Gifted Education Program

Students at St Finbar's who are identified as gifted or talented in a particular key learning area, are catered for within the classroom's differentiated teaching program on a daily basis. Teachers plan for learning opportunities that provide extension and enrichment for students to develop their gifts and talents. All teachers have received professional development in catering for gifted students.

To further enhance these learning programs, school based enrichment provision opportunities occur such as STEAM projects, Passion Projects, Maths Olympiad, cross-age mentor programs, ICAS competitions, writing competitions and creative and visual arts competitions and opportunities are offered.  There are also links with the local feeder high schools, Bethany and Marist Colleges, for mentoring, such as the Bethany Writer's Program for Stage 3 students. Subject or grade acceleration of students can also occur after comprehensive identification and assessment and in consultation with parents.
