Parent Engagement

At St Finbar's, we value, encourage and actively support a positive andsupportive partnership between home and school. Parents have many opportunities to be involved, either formally or informally, and are welcomed to be involved in the life of the school.

Parents are an integral part of our daily prayer as a whole school each and every morning as we pray and celebrate together, and are always welcome to attend class prayer, masses and Stop Pray and Reflect (SPaR).

There are always many and varied ways in which our parents can be a part of the action! Parents are invited to help in classrooms with activities such as Reading and Maths groups, as support to teachers on excursions, helping in our school library to cover home readers and books, and volunteering to help in the school canteen.

Parent Representative Group

Each year, two or three parents from each class form our very active Parent Group who endeavour to support the school in providing fundraising opportunities which enhance the wonderful learning environment for our children at St Finbar's, as well as creating welcoming social opportunities and events for families to come together.

Class Parent Representatives are nominated and chosen yearly, and meet once a term with the Principal, where events are discussed, and suggestions, questions or concerns from parents can also be raised . Each class has the responsibility of one or two fundraising events to coordinate.

The Parent Group Representatives, assisted by the parents in their class group, to organise many activities throughout the year. These have included:

  • Mothers' Day Stall and High Tea Breakfast morning
  • Fathers' Day Stall and BBQ Breakfast
  • Family and Parish Christmas Carols evening
  • Walkathon
  • Parent Trivia and Dinner Dance Night
  • School Disco and Movie Nights
  • School Fair
  • Class Parent representatives  are also encouraged to organise class dinners, picnics, etc.

Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a small representative group comprising of representatives both from the school and parish community that together with the Principal and Assistant Principal work together for the benefit of the school community.

The council meets termly to discuss and provide feedback on current agenda items and also to look forward to how the educational needs of the students can be enhanced. Parents are encouraged to approach the members of the council and have any issues they may wish raised and discussed.

The members of the PAC are usually appointed for a period of two years when new members are then approached. The minutes of these meetings are available through the school office.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee meets termly to discuss matters relating to the school budget. This committee is comprised of the Principal, the Assistant Principal, the Secretary and one to two members of the school/parish community.
