Principal's Message

Welcome to the website of St.Catherine of Siena Prestons

Our school strives to be a Catholic community inspired and challenged by the example of St.Catherine of Siena. The foundation of our teaching ministry is based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Our school community is warm, respectful and focused on quality relationships. Our school belongs to the St.Francis Xavier Lurnea Parish which is led by our Parish Priest Father Thu Nguyen.

Our dedicated staff work collaboratively to deliver student-centred, quality teaching across the school. The staff reflect a professional learning culture which is focused on growth and clear annual improvement goals. Parents are provided with regular opportunities to work as an integral part of this team in order to enhance student outcomes. Our community strives for academic excellence and teachers draw upon a range of experiences and data to meet the specific needs of all students.

The students at St.Catherine of Siena enjoy learning in a contemporary educational setting. Teachers utilise a variety of technologies including smartboards, laptops and IPads as instructional, creative and collaborative tools across the curriculum. Grade teachers plan, implement and evaluate effective programs with their team partners, school specialists and school leadership members. The children enjoy the use of a sprawling, green landscaped site with great space for a variety of games and sports. The school also utilises a large multi-purpose hall, outdoor basketball court, fitness circuit, Kindergarten developmental play area, working vegetable patch garden and a newly refurbished library.

The staff are committed to providing a safe, inclusive learning environment for the children which draws upon their personal gifts, learning styles and interests. Our community values student wellbeing and is rigorous in its approach to pastoral care. All classes participate in weekly Creative Arts, Sport and Library lessons with specialist teachers. An extensive extracurricular program also provides a range of opportunities for students to participate in programs that they enjoy. These programs  include representative sport pathways, sport gala days, dance groups, choir, public speaking, coding club, garden club, After-school AFL / Soccer, social justice groups and Student Representative Council. A Kindergarten and Year 6 Buddy system also supports Kindergarten transition and builds student relationships across the school.

St.Catherine of Siena Prestons offers parents/carers  a  supervised car drop off (8:10am - 8:40am) and pick up service (2:50pm - 3:20pm). The school also offers an on-site ‘Before and After’ school care service run by Camp Australia to assist working families. Our school is located in close proximity to the M5/M7 junction.
