For Students

Every student at St Bernard’s has the right:

  • To be treated with dignity and respect, therefore there will be no swearing, teasing or bullying;
  • To feel safe and happy, therefore all students will play safely and not hurt others;
  • To learn, therefore all students will work quietly and not disturb others.

House Teams

Upon enrolment at St Bernard’s, each child is placed into a House team where they will remain from Kindergarten until Year 6. Siblings will always be placed into the same team. These teams are used for the Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, and some other school activities.

To honour our ties with the Daughters of our Lady of the Sacred Heart as our founders, our house teams have the following names:

  • Chevalier (gold): Fr Jules Chevalier (1824-1907) founded the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart at Issoudun, in France, in 1874.
  • Hartze (red): Sr Marie Louise Hartzer (1837-1908) joined the congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in 1884. For twenty-six years she guided the community in the tradition of the founder, Fr Chevalier.
  • Xavier (green): Sr Xavier Ryan was our first school Principal in 1885 when the school was located on its original site in Botany Road. Sr Xavier was an Irish sister who travelled to Australia with four other OLSH members for missionary purposes.
