About Us

Sacred Heart is a Catholic primary school for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Fr John McSweeney was appointed Parish Priest to Villawood in 1962. This area was the only one in the region that did not have a Catholic school. The population was established by a large number of former Air Force personnel and people who had moved from the inner city suburbs of Sydney.

By 1965, a school was built and two Sisters of St Joseph from Fairfield began teaching classes from Kindergarten to Year 2. The Sisters of St Joseph continued their work at Sacred Heart until 1990, when the first lay Principal was appointed.

Over the years, the strong faith and missionary spirit of St Mary MacKillop and the Sisters of St Joseph has been developed through the school community. The school has a great devotion to the Sacred Heart and its motto, ‘Live Jesus’ Way’. This is reflected in the strong pastoral focus of our school.

Sacred Heart was entirely rebuilt on acreage just 200 metres from the original site. The new school was blessed and officially opened on 18 March 2005 by Cardinal George Pell.
