Curriculum

Regina Coeli provides a dynamic curriculum which is child centred, based on NSW Board of Studies Requirements and founded on Gospel values.

The Key Learning Areas of the curriculum are:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Human Society and its Environment
  • Creative and Practical Arts
  • Science and Technology
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Religious Education

This dimension is the life of our school. Our mission is to nurture and celebrate our faith. At the same time, the children follow a curriculum which enhances the faith life of our families. This includes a range of topics concerned with Faith, Relationship with Self and Others, Mission and Justice, The Church's Liturgical Calendar, Sacraments, The World and Prayer.

English

At Regina Coeli, we believe that language is central to children's intellectual, social and emotional development and has an essential role in all key areas. We provide the children with the opportunity to communicate in an atmosphere of positive expectation, supportive, sharing and ongoing learning.

Mathematics

Mathematics is a creative, challenging and interesting means of exploring our world. Mathematics is developed through investigation, a search for patterns, through relating to real life and through revision and consolidation.

Science and Technology

Science and technology provides the children with the opportunity to explore their world in order that they might better understand thier local and global environment. Through science we seek to investigate, understand and explain our natural and made environment. In technology we seek to solve problems by designing, making and manipulating materials.

Human Society and Its Environment

HSIE provides opportunities for the children to learn about people's interactions with each other and their cultural, social and physical environments. The children are encouraged to participate effectively in maintaining and improving the quality of their society and environment.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

PDHPE provides opportunities for the children to form positive attitudes about themselves and others, to communicate effectively, work cooperatively and develop and maintain positive relationships. It helps the children to take responsible action regarding their own lifestyle and make informed decisions about situations in which they might find themselves.

Creative & Practical Arts

The Visual Arts curriculum offers a unique means of personal and shared response to our changing world. We offer a balanced sequence of learning experiences for children to develop effectively in each of the creative arts.

ICT at our School

Technology is utilised across the Key Learning Areas.

All students have access to computers in their classroom. Most of the school's students have taken advantage of the school's ChromeBook purchasing program and have their own device. Regina Coeli is a technology rich learning environment!

Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard (IWB) and laptops for students to access on a daily basis. IPads, IPods, FLIP cameras are also used throughout the school to support teaching and learning programs.

Mathletics and Reading Eggs are K-6 programs that support the students’ learning and help to develop numeracy and reading skills. The students have access to these programs at school and at home. A fee is charged to parents for these programs.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It has been an everyday part of the school calendar since 2008.
