CIEC - Catholic Intensive English Centre

On Tuesday, the 25th April, the Catholic Intensive English Centre opened at Patrician Brothers' College. It

has been a very exciting and rewarding experience for students and staff. The Catholic Intensive English Centre aims to assist eligible newly arrived secondary students in Australia in the acquisition of the English language for social and academic purposes. It is an intensive English language program for secondary students who are enrolled in a Sydney Catholic High School.

The CIEC at Patrician Brothers' College structures learning to meet the outcomes of the CIEC Framework and aims to develop a competent level of English language proficiency, enabling newly arrived students to use and understand English in a variety of contexts, across various subject areas such as; English, Religion, Science, Mathematics, History, Geography, Commerce, Music, PDHPE and Art and have control over the

structures and grammatical features of English.

Additionally, the program supports students to continue their conceptual development while expanding their English language skills and gain an understanding of

the expectations of the Australian schooling system. The program draws upon the Archbishop’s Charter for Catholic Schools, Archdiocese of Sydney, and responds in particular to nurturing students’ love of learning through a Catholic pedagogy that fosters the development of the intellect, moral knowledge, understanding and reasoning in a relational, social and cultural context while working in partnership with and supporting parents as the primary educators of children.

Thank you!
