For Parents

Parent involvement is valued and encouraged. There is a high degree of parental involvement and support at OLSH. A high priority is placed on community partnership, openness and social interaction between parents. The Parents’ and Friends’ Association manages the uniform shop, in addition to supporting the school’s resource requirements by fund raising. There are several parent sub-committees, including special events, social activities, class parent liaison, Book Club, Uniform Shop and the P&F Executive Committee. The Executive Committee meets with the Principal once a term prior to the general meetings which are usually held on the 3rd Tuesday of each term at 7.30pm in the school library. P&F newsletter items are included in the school newsletter.

Parents are also represented on the school’s Advisory Council and parents are surveyed for their opinion on a range of issues throughout the year, including a satisfaction survey to be included in the Annual Report to the Community.

The current Advisory Council Members are Antoinette Harvey, Father Peter Hearn, Joseph Payne, Elizabeth Shields & Joanne Smith.

Parents also work with staff to provide assistance to charities and those in need. Part of the P&F fundraising efforts support Project Compassion, St Vincent de Paul Winter and Christmas appeals, the Gethsemane Project and msc missions as part of the school’s Social Justice program.

The appointment of a Family Educator offers parents the opportunity to take time out of their busy schedules to stop, pray and reflect at the weekly SPaR sessions, to join others for discussion, reflection, meditation, conversation and companionship in a variety of settings.

Parents are also welcome to assist in the classroom with reading, science, the Perceptual Motor Program for Kindergarten, on excursions, athletics and swimming carnivals. They are also invited to share their knowledge with students when learning about the community in which we live and the various roles they have in the workplace.
