Our Parish

Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church Homebush

History

The Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption in Homebush was founded in 1953, after a previous attempt to set up the parish in 1932 had been unsuccessful. In August 1953, Monsignor Kerr from St Dominic’s Church, Flemington, proposed the establishment of a parish church/school in Homebush and on January 6, 1954 a contract to build such a Church was signed by Rev Monsignor Kerr and John Finlay. The Church was completed that same year and was blessed and opened by Cardinal Norman Gilroy on October 10, 1954.

In 2004, after some renovations to the interior and exterior of the church, His Eminence, Cardinal George Pell, consecrated the church and the Altar on the day of the church’s Golden Jubilee.
