Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians and those new to our website.

I have learnt very quickly that our school is embedded in a Catholic learning community based on hospitality. We are the newest Catholic primary school in the Archdiocese of Sydney, purposely built for contemporary learning and wonderful open grassy spaces where the students have ample opportunity to run, be free and just be children.

Naturally our school has a special devotion to the Holy Spirit, present and real in our lives. The Holy Spirit, whom in John’s gospel is called the Advocate, the one who walks with us. Therefore, the students are constantly reminded that Christ is with them as they learn in a community embedded in ritual, prayer, sacred music, signs, symbols and our Catholic tradition. This makes our teaching a distinctly Catholic pedagogy, the way of the Holy Spirit; our true purpose and ministry as Catholic educators.

In 2012, the school engaged in a review process and a new four year strategic plan (2013 – 2016) established future directions for Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. This new plan is also available on the school website.

Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School embraces a learning platform where all believe that:

  • Optimum learning occurs when the learner understands the learning process and knows about themselves as a learner.
  • Learning occurs at different rates and in different ways.
  • Learning should be relevant to life in a contemporary society.
  • The learner is interactive in the process and organization of learning.
  • Responsibility for learning is owned and shared by the community.
  • Best learning occurs in relationships based on trust, support, respect and encouragement.
  • Learning is effective when the learning space is conducive to a variety of learning styles.
  • The learner takes responsibility for their own learning.
  • Learning should be fun, positive and celebrated.
  • All children have equal rights to access the curriculum.
  • The school with the Parish needs to foster an obvious sense of Catholic community, identifiable by its Christian actions.
  • Celebration must be a vital aspect of our school culture.
  • The school is an active participant in the evangelizing mission of the Church.

This is the roadmap for our school journey. We have begun to travel along this visionary path, as outlined in our Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School Strategic Plan 2013-2016. It is my hope that every day our school brings to life the goals outlined in its content.

Feel free to contact us either by phone or through email, if you would like to know more about our school. There is so much to tell you, so much to be proud of and I can’t do it all in such a limited space. Many thanks for viewing our story. Feel free to be a part of our story.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Reardon
