High School Kevin Kearney and Scott Conway

Jr. High Connie Formanek

PHILOSOPHY

Cross Country and distance running teaches several important life lessons. Many of the most important things in our lives take time and work. To improve in physical fitness and in cross country takes time (months and years in fact) and showing up for practices/workouts.

PRACTICES

Once practice begins, attendance is expected. Absences should be uncommon. If there is a need to be absence, it is important that you communicate directly with Coach Kearney or Coach Conway. Either talk to us in practice, or communicate via e-mail. It is VERY important that practice attendance is a priority. The simple fact is that you cannot get better if you are not at practice. We practice every day after school and Saturday mornings (that we do not have meets) at 8am. JH is not required to practice on Saturday.

What to Bring to Practices:

On the first day:

Your physical form.

Every day:

proper attire, water bottle or sports drink

Mandatory: running or cross training sneakers (not: basketball shoes, Converse, Keds, Sketchers, etc)

We recommend getting a new pair of training shoes if you haven't already done so. A good pair of shoes is really the only equipment in cross country.

Guide to buying Running Shoes

Injury/prevention If you have had problems in the past, here are some exercises for common running injuries. DO them BEFORE you get injured again. After practice, you can do exercises that are tailored to your needs.
