WQMP Program: Technical and Financial Assistance for Agricultural Producers in the Lavon Lake Watershed
The Collin County SWCD is currently administering a program through a partnership with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) through a Clean Water Act Section 319(h) grant to provide technical and financial assistance to agricultural producers in the Lavon Lake Watershed. Funds are used to support the development and implementation of Water Quality Management Plans (WQMPs) to address the nonpoint source pollution in the watershed.
A WQMP is a site-specific plan developed through and approved by SWCDs which includes appropriate land treatment practices, production practices, management measures, and technologies that prevent and abate agricultural and silvicultural nonpoint source pollution. The CCSWCD, TSSWCB, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will assist agricultural producers in developing a WQMP and acquiring financial aid to implement best management practices.
Landowners in the watershed can apply to receive up to $30,000 per property in financial incentive from the grant. In a cost-share agreement, a predetermined incentive payment rate is set aside for each practice on a per-unit (ex. per-acre) basis. Completed work is certified in the field and reimbursed at the agreed rate.
This project originates from the Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) that was initiated and developed by the North Texas Municipal Water District with funding from the TSSWCB and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A WPP is a stakeholder-driven plan to improve water quality through identified implementation measures.
