Westview Middle School offers a competitive robotics team for 7th and 8th graders that is separate from the robotics classes offered during the school day. This program is a natural fit for our STEM school with its focus on engineering, mathematics, computer programming, teamwork, and 21st Century Skills. Students are challenged through a cyclical design process to define needs, develop ideas, create prototypes, and test their creations via internal and external competitions and criteria. In the fall of 2016, the program will be entering its 5th year. As a result of the success of previous years, as well as the increased interest in robotics, we are taking applications to join the Westview Robotics Team.
Westview Robotics will consist of teams with 3-4 students per team. The meeting times will be Mondays and Thursdays after school until 5pm as well as during STEM block in the mornings at school. As we approach competitions your team may need to add additional after school meetings to ensure that your robot will be ready.
Competitions will be held throughout the season (3-5 Saturdays) from October through February. Should your team advance beyond the state competition, the season will continue on through April.
Due to the nature of the program being a year long commitment, as a member of the Westview Robotics Team you will need to be committed to your team and fulfill the position(s) for which you were chosen. If, for some reason, you are unable to stay committed, then the position will open up and another student may step in to take your place on the team.
You will need to be self motivated and highly engaged
in the success of your team.
Robotics Team Updates
U.S. Open CREATE Robotics Nationals
Westview Robotics is sending four teams to compete at the U.S. Open CREATE Robotics National Tournament on April 6th, 2017. Please help support these young engineers as they continue to pursue their passion of building, programming, and competing in VEX Robotics Competitions. Our goal of $6,000 will cover our travel and entry fees for the teams to have this wonderful learning opportunity.
