About Me

I am a native Coloradan (my family came here from Missouri, and settled in Masonville and Grand Junction in 1876 -- my maiden name is Carter), and have been married to my husband, Steve, for 27 years. I have two adult children, Mark and Lisa.  I enjoy spending time with my family, as well as camping, ATVing, fishing, reading and gardening. I have also started exploring genealogy and have learned all sorts of interesting things about my family history that I didn't know! (For example, one of my ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence. Can you guess who?)
Education is my second career. I originally started in Business Marketing, until I realized my real passion was in education. I have been teaching for 12 years; most of those in 6th grade. I thoroughly enjoy working with 6th graders; watching them grow. History is a passion of mine, and I try to learn new history in the places I visit.  In fact, I had the opportunity a while back  to take participate in a forum in  Virginia; where I was able to "walk in the footsteps" of Thomas Jefferson, and learn about his ideas of liberty.  I am looking forward to working with your child this year and watching them discover their own love of history.
