Welcome to Integrated Math 1 for 2016 - 2017. The Silver Valley High School Mathematics Department has implemented the new Common Core State Standards for Mathematics beginning in the 2013-14 school year. For more information about the Common Core Standards visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/. Silver Valley High School has been switching to the Integrated Mathematics Pathway from Common Core for the last several years, and this year will be fully following the Integrated Mathematics pathway. Students will take Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II and Integrated math III, instead of the traditional Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 sequence. Students will still study the same topics, however this sequencing is more natural, and allows for more complete understanding and better retention. We have been and will continue to use materials from College Prep Mathematics (CPM) and have been very pleased with these materials. CPM is fully aligned with the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices and with the content standards. CPM course designs are based on important learning principles and successful teaching strategies. CPM is a mathematics curriculum that centers around structured investigation and problem solving in collaborative teams, an approach that is backed by over 30 years of research indicating that cooperative learning is a more effective way than direct instruction for students of all ages to learn most concepts – and is especially effective for students learning non-linguistic concepts. This is true for students at all levels, from remedial to gifted. Results from the last few years of implementation showed an increase student achievement over past years. For more detailed information about the CPM program, visit their website at http://www.cpm.org/ There is a parent section where parents/guardians will find information about the design of the course, its research base, Parent Guides, Homework Help, and much more. Students will be assigned both a physical text-book, and a 1 year-book licence. The e-book also has direct links to the homework website. Current Assignments Students have a calendar/assignment sheet that lists all current assignments - both classwork and homework. Unless I say otherwise, assignments are due the day after they are assigned. Student Materials
Information about Grading I use a weighted scale to determine grades. This is where everything that students do is included in one of the following categories, and the percent of points earned in each category is multiplied by the weight to determine the students final grade. I use the following categories and weights. 50% Individual Tests 15% Group Tests 10% Assignments 10% Quizzes 15% Final Exam For more information about these categories and grading please contact me or see the documents below. |
