Four Destination ImagiNation Teams Advance to State

Sandy Valley Destination ImagiNation teams competed at the regional Destination ImagiNation tournament and four teams advanced to the state tournament on March 30th. One middle school team took 2nd place while the other middle mchool team and high school team took 1st place at the tournament. These four teams will be representing Sandy Valley at the state DI tournament! Congratulations to the following students for doing such a terrific job at the tournament:

SV's Prom is "A Whole New World" of Amazement!

This year, Sandy Valley's prom features Arabian Nights - A Whole New World theme. The prom will be on Saturday, April 27th, at La Pizzeria from 6-11 p.m. Tickets go on sale on April 8th during lunch periods and are also on sale before and after school. Tickets for seniors will be $30 and for juniors $35. All student fees need to be paid before tickets will be sold. Permission forms will be available April 2nd and need to be signed before purchasing tickets.

In addition, promenade will be at 5 p.m. in the SV Performing Arts Hall and After Prom will be from 12 a.m. until 2 a.m. at SVHS. 


SV Students Participating in the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Honors Band Concert

On Saturday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. eight SV students will be performing in the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Honors Band!

They will be performing with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kent State Tusc Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m.  This concert will also feature the world renowned Alloy Horn Quartet.  Tickets are available here on the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra website.


SV Students Showcase Artwork at the Stark County High School Art Exhibit

Seven student artists are showcasing their work at the Stark County High School Art Exhibit at the Canton Museum of Art. The artwork is on view from March 20-April 7. The awards reception (which is FREE and open to the public) is ON Friday, April 5, from 5-8 p.m., during Canton's First Friday! Stop by the Canton Museum of Art and see the artwork on display from our talented artists!



Kindergarten Registration Fair: Welcome to the Nest!

Welcome to Sandy Valley Elementary Class of 2032! The Kindergarten Registration Fair on Thursday, March 21st, from 4-6 p.m. in the SV Wellness Center. Registration tables will be set up along with many fun activites for your future Cardinal including a bouncy house, photo opportunity with the SV Cardinal and much more! All future kindergarteners will be given a free SV t-shirt!

Kindergarten Registration Packets are available at Sandy Valley Wellness Center, through SPARK Parent Partners, the Stark County District Library (SV Branch), Sandy Valley Elementary, Sandy Valley Estates (office), or downloadable at www.svlocal.org.

At the KinderCardinal Fair, there will be face painting, various local organizations, a bounce house, and a special appearance by the SV Cardinal. All Class of 2032 students will receive a t-shirt! New students will complete screening for vision, speech, hearing, and various academic assessments. The school nurse will be available to assist with student medical forms. Parents will complete registration packets during their child’s screening session. Please note current Little Cardinal and SCIP parents have already received registration packets and all Little Cardinal and SCIP students have been screened at the school.

Get Ready for School/Staggered Start will take place the first three days of Kindergarten on Tuesday, August 20th (A-I); Wednesday, August 21st (J-Q) and; Thursday, August 22nd (R-Z) from 9:30 – 2:00. This will provide the opportunity for teachers and students to develop relationships in a smaller learning environment. There will be an informal parent meeting each date from 9:30-10:30. Please note there will not be bussing (Kindergarten Only) will be available on the 20th, 21st or 22nd. All Kindergarten students will start full days (8:30-3:30) on Friday, August 23rd. Bussing for kindergarten students will begin on August 23rd.

Open House will be held Wednesday, August 14th (5-7 p.m.) at Sandy Valley Elementary for Kindergarten families. Students will meet their Kindergarten teacher, get to hear all the exciting teaching and learning opportunities that will take place during 2019-2020, tour a school bus, and learn about extracurricular programs available.

SVE Kicks Off the 2019 Right to Read Week

It's time to have an adventure and read s'more books with Right to Read Week! March 18-22, SVE will be celebrating reading through many events throughout the week. One activity that is easy to do at home is READ! Tally up the books read each night to help us reach the goal of over 4000 books! If we reach the goal, Dr. Johnson will become a human s'more!

Books will be counted the following ways:
Preschool through second grade - Number of books read
Third through fifth grade - Number of books read OR pages read (15 pages = one book)

Students can also particpatein the following theme/dress up days:
Monday - Don't get lost in the trees! Wear flannel or camouflage apparel
Tuesday - Let's camp out! Wear pajamas
Wednesday - Go green for nature! Wear green
Thursday - Come ready to explore! Wear your exploration apparel (vests, hats, hiking boots, etc.)
Friday - Let's go star gazing! Wear all black for our blackout


Cardinals Head to Regionals! District-Wide Early Dismissal Scheduled for Thursday

Way to go, Cardinals! The SV varsity boys' basketball team won the district championship Friday and are heading to Regionals! This is the first time in 29 years and the third time in school history that our Cardinals have gone to Regionals in basketball! Sweet sixteen! The regional game begins at 6:15 Thursday in Athens. Knowing that our Cardinal Nation will want to travel to the game, there is a district-wide two-hour early dismissal on Thursday, March 14th. Middle and high school students will be dismissed at 12:30 and elementary students will be dismissed at 1:30. Afternoon SV and SKIP preschools will be canceled Thursday. If your child depends on after-school Y care, the YMCA will be open beginning at 12:30 and 1:30. The Kindergarten Fair for Thursday has been rescheduled for March 21st.

Tickets for the game will be on sale Monday-Wednesday in the high school office. Pre-sale tickets are $7 and are cash only.

SV Drama Club Presents the Wizard of Oz

Sandy Valley Drama Club is performing The Wizard of Oz on March 15th and 16th at 7 p.m. and March 17 at 2 p.m. The musical is directed by Brenda Schreffler with vocal direction by Brian Schwall, choreography by Kari Boyer and orchestra by Craig Carnes. The cast includes Rebecca Schreffler as Dorothy, Ashtyn Humphrey as the Scarecrow, Meghan Hughes as the Tinman, Dylan Vanmeter as the Lion, Shelby Chester as Glinda, Jordan Frederick as the Wicked Witch, and Jordan Ruble as the Wizard. The musical also features Matt Gentry as Uncle Henry and Emilee Smith as lead dancer/dance captain. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered by calling the high school office at 330-866-9371 ext. 3222 or emailing Brenda Schreffler at b.schreffler@svlocal.org. Reserved tickets will be at will call. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

L. Frank Baum’s classic novel comes to life in The Wizard of Oz. This faithful adaptation by the Royal Shakespeare Company features all the most beloved songs and moments from the 1939 classic film, brought to life onstage. Young Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz. There, she encounters a host of whimsical characters: good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and things magical to behold. To find her way home, she must journey along the Yellow Brick Road to see the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City. Along the way, she makes new friends, but must also brave many dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Dorothy’s magical ruby slippers. To make it home safely, Dorothy must learn an important lesson: there’s no place like home.

SV Elementary Yearbooks Orders Extended

SV Elementary families: the deadline has been extended to March 15th for SVE yearbooks! The link to order online is ybpay.lifetouch.com and the yearbook ID code is 10045619 (or search the location and school). Order forms are also available in the elementary office. The standard yearbook cost is $15, but there are personalizations available at an extra charge. Order the 2018-2019 SVE yearbook today!
