Important Medication and Immunization Information

posted Jun 13, 2017, 6:06 AM by Allison Morris   [ updated Jun 15, 2017, 4:45 AM ]

Important information for parents of incoming 7th and 12th grade students: The Ohio Department of health has the following new immunization requirements for students who will be entering 7th and 12th grade in the 2017-2018 school year:

Grade 7 - One booster dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and accellular pertussis- adolescent and adult formulation)  vaccine is required prior to entry into 7th grade.

Grade 7 – one dose of Meningococcal-(serogroup A, C, W and Y) is required prior to entry into 7th grade.

Grade 12 – Two doses of Meningococcal (serogroup A, C, W, and Y)  are required prior to entry into 12th grade. If the first dose was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is NOT required.

Your child MUST receive these vaccinations prior to entry into 7th and 12th grade. We encourage you to contact your primary physician, or attend any of the clinics at your local health department to avoid exclusion from school.  If you have any questions, please contact the Mary Leopold, RN (School Nurse) @ 330-866-9225, ext. 1810.

Also, there is a change in the prescription and non-prescription medication policy for the 2017-2018 school year: our medication policy requires that ALL medications have a physician signature, this includes over-the-counter medication. Keep this in mind as you make your physical appointments.  If your child needs any over the counter medication throughout the year, please have your physician complete the prescription medication form (link is below) and each form must have a parent signature also.

A quick reminder: A parent or adult must bring medication into school. Students may not carry medication on the bus to school, the only exceptions by law are:  inhalers, epi-pens and diabetic supplies with a written physician order.

Students in Ms. Al's Business Administration class completed service projects the last week of school.  They helped the Leo Club finish putting down the remainder of stones around the butterfly garden, planted flowers in the front of the school, placed mulch around the Class of 2009 Memory Tree, and placed bird seed and peanut butter covered pine cones in trees for the birds.

Girls on the Run is an organization to instill the love of running, health and confidence. This year, the girls practiced and then ran a 5K.  The practice 5K was held on Tuesday, May 2nd. The runners have been meeting twice a week since March. There are 13 girls in grades 3-5 on the team this year. We were happy to have Jason Calkins, Gabby DiTullio and Corinne Haney and some students from the Middle School track team help with the practice race.
The coaches are Becky Blackford, Jann Coates and Jen Veigel. Great job, girls!
