Welcome to the School Nurse website!

From time to time information comes across my desk that I feel is beneficial to share. This information might be the latest report from the Center of Disease Control on a particular disease or it might simply be a good "home remedy" that I've read or heard about. I will share that information with you here on this website.

I will also try to keep you informed of any school related health concerns (i.e. increased cases of influenza, mono, etc.) while observing complete student confidentiality at all times. I ask that you also keep me informed of any health related concerns that you may have.

Please remember to keep me advised of any medical changes that may occur throughout the school year, such as a new medication, allergies, asthma, immunizations, etc., so that I may update your child's health file. This is to insure that I have the most accurate and current  health information in the event of a medical emergency.

As always, do not hesitate to give me a call or email me with any questions and/or concerns.

Cold or Flu?  What to Do?

What is influenza (also called flu)?

The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.

Signs and symptoms of flu

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults
