Sunapee School Board Goals


  1. Maintain the fiscally responsible, sound financial management of the district to support high quality, cost-effective programs, services and facilities.  

  • Present a budget that supports the economic times

  • Maintain appropriate funds in Capital Reserve Accounts to ensure unanticipated needs

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

  1. Provide a clearly articulated, high quality academic and extracurricular program that offers every student the opportunity to participate, learn and succeed within the school community.

  • Work on finding ways at SCES and SMHS to meet the needs of all learners using a variety of means: classroom differentiation, after-school and summer programs and extended learning opportunities

  • Maintain ranking in the top 15% of all schools in the state as measured by multiple factors:  NECAP (Smarter Balance), drop out and graduation rates

  • Prepare students cognitively, emotionally, physically and behaviorally for the transition from one learning opportunity to another PreK-13

  • Demonstrate each student’s appropriate progress on an annual basis as measured by standards based assessments (NWEA)

  • Encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods. Promote the use of technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, for a variety of purposes

  • Provide appropriate educational opportunities for all students

2a. Support professional development which aligns curriculum and assessments with College & Career Ready Standards, advances best instructional practices and broadens the district assessment repertoire.


  1. Create an environment of mutual respect, cooperation and open communication through partnerships with parents, businesses and the community at large.

  • Encourage, document and publicize the development and sharing of innovative and exemplary practices by students, faculty and administrators

  • Enhance the image of the School District through communication and sound media relationships

  • Develop an email list to improve the delivery of school communication with the Community; connect with other town distribution lists

  1. Maintain appropriate Board policies aligned with educational goals and sound educational practices.

  • Policy Review Committee


  1. Continue to improve the district’s facilities and the maintenance of those facilities

  • Create a warrant article for bus entrance to SCES

  • Update CIP list for 2014-2017
