three chamber vessel

Three Chamber Vessel demonstrates the workflow from CAD to foundry at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The form was milled from jewelry wax (constrained to the original stock dimensions) and then brought into a traditional ceramic shell casting process. Differences in expansion rates of jewelry wax and foundry wax account for unique splits in the casting form and impart a process thumbprint on the final object.

7 in. x 3 in. x 1.5 in.

The form begins as a block of jeweler's wax (blue material, above) which is CNC-milled from the top and, flipped, from the bottom (the latter configuration is pictured above).
