Welcome to 6th grade math! I am very excited about this school year. Here is some information that may be useful about what we will learn in 6th grade math: North Carolina will still teach the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematics as the curriculum in grades K-12 this year. I encourage you to look over this curriculum at the following website: corestandards.org/the-standards/mathematics. The two parts of the math curriculum are focused on rigor, higher order thinking skills, and career and college readiness. Content Standards - The CCSS content standards in 6th grade are built around five “domains” including Ratios & Proportional Relationships, The Number System, Expressions & Equations, Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. Mathematical Practices Standards - The mathematical practices standards are eight standards that are consistent throughout every grade and give a focus to how teachers should be encouraging students to think mathematically. Please feel free to contact me through email with any questions you may have throughout the year. Thank you! Kierca Kimbel |
