WMS Field Guide: Fall 2011

The 7th grade Life Scientists at Wayland Middle School have completed an exciting project while learning about their local ecosystem in an authentic manner. Students worked outside of the classroom in the woods for 2 weeks, studying their environment. A key component of this study was to identify and catalog the organisms that are present in the Wayland woods. This Field Guide is the culminating piece that students created. In this guide you will find flora and fauna that are present in Wayland, Massachusetts. Many of the photographs are taken by students. Students researched information about the physical characteristics, habitat and adaptations of the organism they found. Finally, they sketched the organism to include an artistic portrayal of each. This guide was completed by all 7th grade Life Scientists with the help of their teachers, Kathy Hawkins and Jill Darling.
