Purpose: By studying food and recipes from our family's heritage, we gain a greater understanding of their cultural background. Students will also learn how to research, analyze, synthesize, write and present their information, eventually in a website format.
Procedures: First, each student will research the food and recipes of their family's heritage. They will then select a specific food and write the following: 1. a narrative introduction, 2. a recipe, 3. an explanation of the history of the food and connections to their family, 4. a properly formatted works cited crediting all their sources. Students will be given the opportunity to prepare the recipes that they have selected. Finally, the students will create a website and present the information that they have discovered.
Student Support: This site provides models of what needs to be achieved, step-by-step guides/grade sheets, and online video tutorials.
