  • Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat By Adam S.It’s about seven o’clock p.m. in the Thomas commons when they dim the lights. The crowd is buzzing, humming. They move as many different parts, creating a vibrant whole, from elderly grandparents, to younger siblings, to students of all kinds. The excitement seems to ripple through the room, and the noise, while immense, is joyful; it rings in my ears. People call to their friends across the aisles, beckoning them over. They check their phones and programs, make idle conversation. They do everything you’d expect, and more. This group, while different in many ways, is all here for one reason. They want to see the musical. They all want to see Joseph and ...

  • Jazz Jamboree By Hannah P. Have you ever heard the TMS jazz band in action? If so, you probably have an idea of how good they are. They look so professional and calm when they play, but trust me, it doesn’t come easy. The jazz band practices every Tuesday and Thursday after school. Most of the members are in the TMS Symphonic band or Wind Ensemble, and they practice an additional 2 or 3 days in the morning before school. If you think that’s dedication, you should see what Mr. Berry, the director, does. I have personally had the pleasure of experiencing his dedication along with the other wonderful band directors through middle school and summer band. The jazz band ...

  • Color Switch- The Attack of the Jump!     By Vishnuh B.    Hey guys! Vishnuh here, and I’m here to recommend the amazing app Color Switch! This app is very addicting as it proves that tapping at random intervals is probably the best thing about games! This addictive game uses imaginary currency to buy new patterns for your jumping dot. The best thing about it is that it is free! Addictive, free, customization, and great graphics can easily hook you on to this game. Now what is bad about this game? Well, it can be frustrating at times since you can get very close to winning, and one mistake can cost you victory. Also, beginners beware! This game is a bit cruel to beginners due to the fact ...

  • Fusion Energy By Adam S. What’s Fusion Energy?Fusion energy is actually very simple, when explained in everyday terms. It is a form of nuclear energy. To collect (energy can’t be created or destroyed) it, you must take two atomic nuclei. A nucleus (nuclei is the plural of nucleus) is the part of an atom that is at the core, containing very dense neutrons and protons - subatomic particles. This part of the atom in a light element (an element without much density or weight), such as helium or hydrogen, can be heated up to such a high temperature it become plasma. In this case, the elements used are two isotopes of hydrogen, deuterium and tritium.                                                                                        When two nuclei in this ...

  • Concussions By Colin S.What is a Concussion?A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury. This means that it is caused by a bump, jolt, or other blow to the head that disrupts normal brain function. It is relatively common in sports, especially contact sports like football, and in the scale of all brain injuries, it is considered mild. However, that term is misleading. It only means that it’s not life threatening, or if you get it it won’t necessarily permanently affect you. Effects and symptoms of concussions are still serious, though.Symptoms of concussions fall under four categories—thinking, physical, emotional, and sleep. For thinking, some symptoms are difficulty thinking clearly, feeling slowed down, and difficulty ...

Short Stories

  • Capture! By Vishnuh B.Note from the editors: A part of this story is published serially each issue. Thus, the story will be updated as each issue of the newspaper comes out.Pt. 1: The Beginning    James slammed his alarm clock, crushing its elastic material into nothing but a blob on the floor. The sun’s glaring rays made James helplessly wither as his skin ran dry, his skin wrung of its moisture. He attacked his sheets, shoving them off of himself. He got dressed in his brown, dirt-stained hooded cloak. He donned his signature item, a three cornered hat. James rushed toward the window of his wooden loft, a palm bungalow atop an abandoned watchtower that the King, Percy ...

  • Four Albums to Listen To This Summer By Adam S.In this article, I’ll present to you three fairly obscure albums I highly recommend, from the (metaphorical) vaults of my music collection.Live and In Living Color by Tower of PowerThis album consists of live versions of four of their most famous songs. Tower of Power was one of the best funk bands of their time. Their horn section was so good, other bands used them as session musicians on their albums. As I’ve written before, I think a rhythm section is one of the most important parts of a band, and a band can’t really get a truly good sound without a good rhythm section: their rhythm section was great at playing ...

  • The 89th Academy Awards! By Charlie M.The one-in-a-million Oscars leave America in a movie daze. Amazing scriptwriters and actors running up against each other for the golden statue. As for me, (and probably many other people), looks like I have A LOT of more movies to watch. But I would like to bring up some popular arguments in the movie/Oscar community. The Baffling La La LandNow, I am going to highlight this one just because of how confusing all of this is. First of all, it won 6 golden globe awards. 6. S-I-X. That is more than HALF of what Hamilton got in the Tony awards, (11). The crazy thing about all of this is that ...

  • Hamilton By Katie S. The new Hamilton musical is taking the nation by storm! Everyone is loving the creative take on history. Hamilton tells Alexander Hamilton’s life story, the loud-mouthed forgotten founding father who was never president. He was constantly disagreeing with people, and by the end, was pretty much everyone’s enemy. The reason this musical is so great is because it tells what would be a story that most people would rather save for school, in a really accessible way. The writer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, made almost every line rhyme. It is wrote in rap form, so it is cool to see what the founding fathers would have said today, instead of being very formal, like they ...
