April 15, 2014 Day 1

1.                It's the time of year for Senior Superlatives! Seniors only: pick up a ballot outside of Mrs. Dyer’s room (Room 166) this week. Completed ballots will be collected this Thursday, April 17th during all lunches. See Olivia Wright or Mrs. Dyer with questions.

2.                Prom Guest forms can be picked up in the main office-you must have all requirements fulfilled.  Guest forms must be completed and returned no later than Wednesday, April 30th.

3.                Any senior that has participated in at least 3 sports each year of high school-please stop by the office to pick up a Tri-Athlete form.  These forms need filled out and returned today.

4.                Congratulations to the PV Choir members for their performances at State Solo & Ensemble Festival this past Saturday.  Over 130 choir students took part in the festival, earning 38 Division l Superior ratings, 38 Division 11 Excellent rating, and 9 Division 111 Good ratings.  Special congratulations to Caitlin Lyon and Claire Swanson, who each earned Outstanding Performance/Best of Center awards for their vocal solos.

5.                Freshmen need to report directly to the theatre immediately after the 7th period bell rings today.  All 9th grade students are required to attend unless a prior make-up test has been scheduled.  Health Club students will be approved to attend this presentation without penalty.

6.                Boys track & Field-a reminder that the varsity bus going to Cedar Rapids Prairie leaves at 2:00.  The JV bus going to Rock Island leaves at 3:00.

7.                Spartan Assembly representative applications are now available in the main office.  Please pick up the form & apply for a position.  All paperwork is due to Mrs. Lux or Ms. Upton by Friday, April 25th.

8.                Today’s lunch selections are:  Chicken Parmesan Sub, Cheeseburger Pasta & Bread Choice, Egg/Cheese/Sausage Sandwich.

9.                Breakfast selections for Wednesday:  Breakfast Pizza.  All breakfast include fruit or vegetable, and milk.  Offered daily-Muffins, Cereal, Pop Tarts, PB& Jelly.

 

April 14, 2014 Day 2

2.                SAVE THE DATE: Project Runway Fashion Show, Saturday Night, May 10th, Black Box Theater!

3.                FCCLA will meet tomorrow morning, Tuesday at 7:15am in the FCS lab room 46.

4.                Wow! Our first season and the Trap Team is doing awesome.  Jael Kulp was in 3 way tie for first place and participated in the first female shoot off in PV Trap history.  She shot excellent and took 2nd place in the tournament. 

5.                There will be no Art Club after school today due to a conflict.  Art Club will meet Wednesday, April 16th after school from 3:30-4:30 in room 285.

6.                Congratulations to all of the band members who participated last Saturday at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival.  Congratulations to Caitlin Thom (percussion), Brian Moose (oboe) and Anthony Yang (alto sax) for receiving “Best in Center” awards for the day.  Overall the band  finished with 53-division 1(Superior) ratings; 25-division 2(Excellent) ratings; and 7-division 3 (Good) ratings.

8.                Due to the cancellation of the boy’s home track & field meet today, girl’s track will practice starting at 3:45pm today, not at the beginning of 8th hour as originally planned.

9.                The Girls varsity and JV track & field teams finished 2nd at the Spartan Invite on Friday.  The Spartans placed first in 6 events including Kelli DeGeorge in the high jump, the 4x100 meter relay, the 4x400 meter relay, Emily Paul in the 200, the shuttle hurdle relay, and Kaley Ciluffo in the 800.  A special congratulations goes to Kaley Ciluffo who broke the school record in the 800m.

10.             Congratulation to the orchestra students who participated in the IHSMA Solo Ensemble Festival on Saturday.  Overall orchestra students received 8 Division 1 (superior) ratings, 4 Division ll ratings (excellent).  Caitlin Thom was selected as best in Center for her Harp performance and Caitlin Lyon was selected as best in center for her cello performance.  The Chamber Orchestra received a Division 1 (superior ) rating.

11.             Today’s lunch selections are:  Beef Nachos, Mandarin Orange Chicken Rice, Spicy Chicken.

12.             Breakfast selections for Tuesday:  Waffles, Pancakes, or French Toast.  All breakfast include fruit or vegetable, and milk.  Offered daily-Muffins, Cereal, Pop Tarts, PB& Jelly.

2.                Auditions for the murder mystery, “The Last Dance of Doctor Disco, will be held 8th period on Thursday and 8th period and after school on Friday in the Black Box. 

3.                Congratulations to Victoria Campbell! She is the first-ever PV student to receive an All-State mention in Art!

4.                Congratulations to Randi Freeborn! She won the Ceramic Award in the QC Arts Competition! See her award-winning work at the QC Arts Center in Rock Island this month!

5.                Congratulations to the Varsity and JV boys tennis teams on their big win over North Scott.

6.                Congratulations to the Girl’s Golf Team for their victory over Bettendorf last night.  Rachele Miller was medalist with a 43.

7.                Today’s lunch selections are:  Taco Bar, Corn Dog.

8.                Breakfast selections for Monday:  Breakfast Pizza.  All breakfast include fruit or vegetable, and milk.  Offered daily-Muffins, Cereal, Pop Tarts, PB& Jelly.

5.                Girls track will practice 8th hour on Thursday (April 10th) due to Boys Soccer Game.  We will meet on the track at 2:50 p.m.

6.                Congratulations to the PHVS Trap Shooting Team for their performance at the meet last night.  1st Squad received 4th place, 2nd squad received 8th place, 3rd squad received 7th and 4th squad received 10th place.

7.                Comic Book Club will meet today at 3:30 in Mr. Larew’s room (157).

8.                Today’s lunch selections are:  Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken Caeser Wrap, Breaded Pork Patty.

2.                Robotics t-shirts will be on sale during all lunches. For 5 dollars you will be able to drive the robot as well as take home a t-shirt. Bring your money and please help support 2 state qualifying teams at Pleasant Valley!

5.                Congratulations to Taylor Huber and Caiti Staver for winning the UNICEF Tap Project contest.  Taylor’s time was 230 hours and Caiti’s was 94 hours 30 minutes.  Stop by Dr. Lundberg’s room to claim your prize!

6.                Any lost & found items not claimed by Friday, 4/11, will be donated to the Good Will – please check in main office!

7.                Registered donors for tomorrow’s blood drive: Please remember to get plenty of sleep, eat plenty of food, and drink plenty of fluids to have the best donation experience. Don’t forget a picture ID and your signed parent consent form. Your gift tomorrow has the potential to save 3 lives so thank you!

8.                Not too late to sign up for the service learning big event tomorrow!  Come earn freshman/sophomore service learning hours by making fleece tie blankets.  Get a permission slip from Mrs. Jepsen today.

April 7, 2014 Day 1

1.                All 10th grade parking tags should be switched over to the newest tag, any old parking tags will be subject to parking violations-need $3 and old parking tag.

2.                The following Admissions Representatives will be in the Career Center Monday, April 7th –Thursday, April 10th (Seniors now is the time to come in and ask any of those last minute question such as for financial aid, dorm life, or classes and Juniors now’s the time for you to start investigating colleges and these visit times are a great opportunity to have more one-on-one time).  Monday 9:00-Scott Community College; Tuesday 9:50-Luther College, 1:10-University of Iowa; Thursday 9:00-University of Wisconsin Platteville.

3.                The 2014 Football Cheerleading Tryouts will be held on Sunday, April 27th.  Tryout clinics to learn material for tryouts will be on Tuesday, April 22nd and Wednesday April 23rd from 6pm to 8pm at Hopewell Elementary.  Please pick up a tryout packet for more information.

4.                Congratulations to the following students for being selected to the 2014 ISTA High School Invitation Honor Orchestra to be held at UNI on Saturday, May 17th.

1.                AP exam registration is open.  Follow the link for Total Registration on the high school home page or see your AP teacher or the counseling office for the web address.  An exam will not be ordered for you if you don’t complete your registration by Friday, April 4th.

2.                Reminder:  6th Grade Campout Counselors are needed!  Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors are asked to sign-up in the AV Room or talk with Mrs. Akker.  Dates of campouts are posted next to the AV room window.

3.                Sign up for Dance Marathon during lunches today & tomorrow or with Mrs. Russell in room 263.  $15 gets you food, fun and a t-shirt!  Help us raise money for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital!

They were last night’s champions in the Zorb Ball tournament. The Event Management class would like to thank everyone that helped make this year’s event a huge success. Thanks to all of you that participated, volunteered, attended the event, bought t-shirts, donated money . . . the Honor Flight of the Quads Cities is truly appreciative.

10.             Dance Marathon shirts are in! Come pick them up in Mrs. Russell’s room. You can also still sign up for Dance Marathon today and at the door! It goes from 4-10 PM tomorrow night in the gyms. See you there!

5.                Need Freshman/Sophomore Service Learning hours?  Join us for the early out event on Wednesday, April 9th here at the high school making fleece tie blankets to be donated to a local cause.  First 20 students to return a permission slip will be able to attend.  Pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Jepsen.

6.                PV Jr. High is looking for volunteers for their upcoming track meets.  The first one is April 8th at the Jr. High and it will begin at 3:45pm.  If you’re interested in earning service learning hours by helping out please see Mrs. Jepsen ASAP.

7.                All seniors that took Personal Finance this year are eligible for a $500 scholarship.  Please see Ms. Weinschenk for an application.  Deadline is Friday, April 11.

2.                Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors:  Counselors are needed for 6th grade camp-outs!  Sign-up sheets are in the AV Room.  If you’re in a sport, please check your schedules & check with your coaches before signing up.  See Mrs. Akker if you have questions.  Campout dates:  Riverdale Heights:  May 5-6, Cody:  May 8-9, Hopewell:  May 12-13, Pleasant View:  May15-16, Bridgeview:  May 19-20.

3.                Social Committee Members, we are meeting Thursday during 8th period in Mrs. Buchter’s room (147).  We will be choosing backdrops for pictures as well as ticket designs.  See Mrs. Buchter with any questions.

5.                PV Families, the HS PTA Right After Prom Committee is hosting a month long fundraiser to raise fund for the Right After Prom party this year.  The fundraiser will give the PTA 15% of every pre tax bill at Chili’s when you mention “PV PTA RIGHT AFTER PROM” or you give a voucher.  Please remember us any time you eat at Chili’s from April 5th-May 4th, 2014.  You can pick up vouchers in the main office.

6.                Have you ever wanted to be an exchange student??  To find out more about this week-long opportunity in India and Amsterdam, come to Multi-Cultural Club on Sunday at 4pm in room 151!

7.                You can still sign up for Zorb Ball!  The event is this Thursday, April 3rd 6-9pm.  The cost is $5 per person with 5 people per team.  There will be a jr. high division and a high school division so come join the fun!  All proceeds go to the Honor Flight of The Quad Cities.  All participants must have a signed waiver to participate.  Waiver forms may be picked up in the main office or room 187. Registration forms are also in the main office.

8.                Congratulations to the PV musicians who took part in the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships yesterday.  Jazz Etc. placed 6th, and Leading Tones placed 3rd in 4A jazz choirs.  Congratulations also to Caitlin Lyon and Marisa Peebles who were selected to the Iowa All-State Jazz Choir!
