About Mrs. Watkins

Hello Kindergarten Families!

I can't wait to meet you and all of my new little friends this week!  Kindergarten is such an exciting time and there is lots of FUN to be had!!  I hope your family enjoyed the summer doing all those fun things you love and are soaking up the dog days of summer now!  My husband Adam and I have been working on renovating a house on Weatherby Lake all summer and are still anxiously waiting our move in date but that hasn't stopped us from taking some time to enjoy the lake a little this summer too....work hard play hard...right?  : )

This is my 6th year teaching kindergarten at Kellybrook!  I taught in Kansas for 5 years, one year in 1st grade and 4 years in Kindergarten.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education (Birth-3rd Grade) at Missouri State University, Springfield, Mo in December 2005.  I then earned my Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in December 2006 from Webster University.  I am from a small rural town; Windsor, MO...the Katy Trail runs through my hometown....the Katy trail is one of my favorites places to bike!

I enjoy Farmer’s Markets on Saturdays, quaint little towns like Parkville and Weston, thrift store shopping and garage saling, flower gardening, yoga/pilates, running and hiking in parks around Kansas City (I love Weston Bend State Park, Watkins Mill, Smithville Lake trails, and Loose Park), First Friday weekends at the West Bottom Antique Markets, restoring old furniture, DIY projects, creating and decorating (did I mention we are almost finished with our lake house renovation-yay!), anything chocolate, and listening to Colbie Caillat Pandora station.  My husband Adam and I got married in Mallorca, Spain and traveled Europe for a month-I am so blessed to have time during the summers to travel.  We are share Royals season tickets and love watching our boys in blue, we also enjoy mountain biking, weekend getaways, walking our dogs, cooking/grilling, weekend brunch at local places around K.C. and spending time with family and friends. Go Royals!! I can't wait to learn all about your kiddos and their hobbies too!

This school year will be filled with many new learning adventures and lots of fun!  I know every learner will be successful and will gain valuable skills that will help them to feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, solve problems with teamwork and become life-long learners.  The key to that success is a positive attitude, lots of hard work, support from home, a lot of communication, and a desire to do your best each day.  With everyone working together, I am confident we can achieve these goals.  I know that you are sending one of your most precious gifts, your child.  I believe that kindergarten should be a place where your child is given the opportunity to learn at his/her level of development, a place where they feel safe and secure, happy and loved.  I will do my best to provide an environment where your child feels all of these things.

I am anxious to meet you at Kellybrook’s Back to School Night.  Please mark your calendar and bring your school supplies to room 112 on the evening of August 15th, anytime between 5:00-6:30 pm.  The Back to School Night will give you a chance to meet me, see where your classroom is located, turn in your supplies, meet many of your new classmates, and tour the school building.  I ask parents to please fill out a parent contact information google doc. survey located on my website under the parent resource tab. (or you can click on this link) Please bring your child’s bus number/departure information for first day, and lunch money for your account if needed.  More information about our day in Kindergarten will be shared with you at our Parent Information Evening on August 25th.

I can’t wait to learn more about my new little kindergarteners!  I feel so privileged I get to work with your child and family this year!  Kellybrook has the best families ever and I feel so lucky to be a small part of the lives of your little ones. I look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night!
