Local Scholarships

David Beeson Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to is to award scholarship money in honor of David Beeson ( a past 3-sport athlete at Mazama) to up to two outstanding athletes who with to forward their education.

Eligibility- the scholarship will be used to help students who:

  • are graduating fro a Klamath County High School
  • have earned a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • have been involved in the Klamath Falls community
  • have served as a role model
  • have been a multi-sport athlete
  • wish to pursue further education and/or training

Application

You may pick up an application in the Guidance Office Box 14. Applications must be returned by 3:30 PM on May 3rd, 2019. Applications should include a completed typed application form, a resume, an official transcript, one letter of recommendation from a Varsity coach and an essay.

The Oregon Scottish Rite Scholarship

Is to support undergraduate study at the freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior level at an accredited college, university, or trade school. To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must submit:

  1. ONLY our application form or an exact replica.
  2. A separate sheet of sheets of paper, the essays asked for on the application form.
  3. Two letters of recommendation from faculty members of your most recently attended school must be submitted in sealed and signed envelopes, with the writers signature over the sealed area of the envelope.
  4. An Unofficial Grade transcript must accompany the above forms.
  5. A final transcript must be provided to me after spring term is completed.

Personal Interview

  • A personal interview may be conducted by me after your application is submitted.
  • The interview will last 15-20 minutes and will be accomplished at a time and place acceptable to both of us.

Timelines

  • All applications must be submitted by 1 May 2019.
  • Final spring transcripts must be submitted as soon as they are available.
  • All applications are reviewed by Scottish Rite staff in Portland to determine recipients of scholarships.

REFERENCE FORM/LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION FORM

All applicants will need to have 3 separate individuals complete a reference form and a letter of recommendation. The references should be done by individuals who know you well. These may include a business person, minister, teacher under whom you have taken courses this year or present employer.

Application deadline is 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, May 17, 2019.

Hispanic Advisory Board- Juniors and seniors of Hispanic heritage are invited to apply for the 2019 Cinco de Mayo Scholarship. Both boys and girls are invited to apply. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize students of Hispanic origin for outstanding scholastic and citizenship achievements. A scholarship will be awarded during the 2019 Cinco de Mayo festivities. The requirements are as follows:

  • Must be a junior or senior at a Klamath Falls City or County high school.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0.
  • Must complete the application ans submit it by Friday, April 12, 2019.
  • Must be available for an interview between April 15 and April 19, 2019
  • Must attend an accredited college or trade school and submit his/hers first term transcript before funds are awarded.

Most local scholarships are distributed for applications in the spring.

Masonic Lodge Scholarship- The Lodge will award one $1,000 scholarship this year. All graduating seniors may apply. The successful candidate will have to have submitted a fully complete scholarship application, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, may be asked to attend a brief interview with the Klamath Lodge #77 scholarship committee, and must attend our scholarship dinner on 6/17/19.

Scholarships must be received by mail no later than May 21, 2019. See application for further details. Box 11 in the Guidance Office.

Cody Sipes Memorial Scholarship- The family of Cody Sipes is offering four $750 scholarships toward higher education to student involved in motocross in any way. The link below is the application.

Insurance Professionals of Klamath Falls Scholarship -The critieria for this scholarship is that the recipient major in one of the following areas: Business, Computer Science, Accounting or Finance (Management).

IPKF will present two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000.

Requirements include:

  • GPA 2.5 or above.
  • Completed application form.
  • Documentation of acceptance/registration as a full time student to college.
  • HANDWRITTEN cover letter including background and goals.
  • One letter of recommendation from Teacher, Counselor, Administrator or employer.
  • High school transcript.

Benefit for the Basin Scholarship- BFB offers up to 26 $500 scholarships in 2019. Qualifications include:

  • Must attend a high school or equivalent in the Klamath Basin.
  • Be in your senior year of high school or the equivalent.
  • Complete application.
  • Complete a three to five hundred word essay on the topic "How I Contribute to My Community". Community can mean family, school, town or county.
  • Submit application with essay by Friday, April 26, 2019.

Applications are available in Box 9 in the Guidance Office.

Klamath County Sports Officials Scholarship Application

KC Sports Officials offer scholarships each spring to high school senior scholar-athletes who will be attending a two or four year college or university in the fall after their senior year. Qualifications include:

  • Resident of Klamath or Lake County
  • High school senior at the time of application
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Varsity letter winner in a sport serviced by KC Sports Officials

Due date Friday, May 3, 2019. See application for further details. Box 8 in the Guidance Office.

Julia Zumwalt Scholarship- Available in Box 6 in the Guidance office.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Julia Zumwalt Scholarship. Attached you will find the application, W9, and reference form for the scholarship. All three documents are required at submission for consideration by the committee. If you need others, please feel free to make copies.

Quoting from the Will:

“It is my desire that preference be given to scholarships for music and engineering. However, this is a wish and shall not be considered to control the Selection Committee. Other than the expression of my wish, the scholarships shall be unlimited in their use by the recipient as to subject or school, but must be used for higher education. The Selection Committee shall consist of the Principals of each high school in Klamath County and the Superintendent of County Schools.”

Although Mrs. Zumwalt’s preference was scholarships for music and engineering, it is not limited to those fields. The committee’s choice of the applicants will not be based on financial need.

To be considered for a scholarship, applications must be received by the Klamath County School District, Curriculum office no later than 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019.

Recipients will be chosen by a committee of the Klamath County School District superintendent or his designee and the principals of the high schools or their designees. A meeting of the Julia Zumwalt Scholarship Selection Committee is scheduled for Friday, May 3rd at 7:00 am at Klamath County School District Boardroom. Principals, please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Mike Keck Scholarship-The basis for this award should include the athletic accomplishments of the young athletes. Consideration should also be given to qualities of scholarship, leadership, citizenship and desire to succeed. Two award's of $1,000 each will be awarded to a graduating senior boy and one to a graduating senior girl. Applicants must submit a complete application, three letters of recommendation and transcripts. Due date: Friday, April 19, 2019. Applications are available in Box 4 in the guidance office.


The College of Cosmetology is offering a $500.00 scholarship to three High School Graduates toward our Cosmetology Course. Applications must be submitted by April 19, 2019. Applicants need to submit a complete application, a resume, two letters of recommendation and a copy of their high school transcript. Applications are available in box 22 in the Guidance office.

Klamath County Republican Scholarships are available now in Box 6. Because of our commitment to education and the presence of both OIT and KCC in our community, KC Republican Women are pleased to offer a $1000 scholarship and 2 $500 scholarships to students planning to attend OIT or KCC or students already attending OIT or KCC.

Requirements for applying are as follows:

  • Applicant must be a registered Republican
  • Applicant must be full-time student attending or planning to attend KCC or OIT (Klamath Campus)
  • Student must have earned a minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Student must attend a personal interview conducted by the KCRW Scholarship Committee members.
  • Two letters of recommendation (one scholastic and one personal) must be received by the application deadline. The personal recommendation mus be submitted by someone who is not a family member.
  • One copy of official high school transcript
  • A 300 word essay on the topic "Why I Am A Republican". (Typed, double spaced and use font size 14).

Archie Linman Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was created in the memory of Mr. Archie Linman who dedicated his life to the Klamath Basin and was a huge promoter of higher education. Archie served on several committees such as the Klamath Fair Board, Henley High School FFA Advisory Committee along with helping create the Best of the Basin Event. He devoted much of his life encouraging young people to follow their dreams.

General Scholarship Criteria:

  • Graduating high school seniors enrolled in 4-H and/or FFA or enrolled undergraduate college students who were a member of 4-H and/or FFA while in high school.
  • Applicants must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.00- High School or College.
  • Applicants need to be planning to further his/her education in a university, college, community college, trade or vocational school.
  • Upon receipt of applications, the committee may select outstanding applicants for a personal interview. Applicants will be notified by mail if they have qualified for a personal interview with the date and time of their interview.
  • Two scholarships will be awarded annually for $1,000 each. One scholarship will be for high school seniors and the second scholarship will be for undergraduate college students.
  • Payment of the scholarships will be made directly to the school of the recipient's choice.
  • All applications and supporting materials need to be delivered to the Klamath County Fairgrounds on or before Monday, April 29, 2019 by 5:00 PM.

OASBO Promising Futures Scholarship-Created to help Oregon students interested in majors compatible with school business finance professions obtain a post-secondary education. This scholarship is open to public high school seniors who have been accepted and college freshmen enrolled full time at an accredited Oregon community college, college or university.

Application Information

The application is due by April 19, 2019 (postmark by date is ok).

Scholarship Criteria

  1. Oregon high school seniors planning to attend or college freshman currently registered as a full time student at an accredited Oregon community college, college, or university.
  2. Student with a declared major compatible with school business management.
  3. Student who has been an Oregon resident for at least one year.
  4. Accepted for admission as a full time student (as defined by the recipient's attending school).
  5. Involvement in school/community activities.
  6. A minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

Application Requirements

  1. High school transcripts that include grade, grade-point average, and class rank. The transcript(s) must be complete through the most recently completed semester.
  2. SAT, PSAT, and/or ACT scores.
  3. List of extra-curricular activities, awards or letters received, offices held, and related achievements.
  4. A typed essay (double spaced, no more than 200 words) detailing their plans for attending college and how the scholarship will help them achieve their educational goals.
  5. Two letters of recommendation; one must be from a school official (principal or teacher).

Scholarship recipients will be selected from those applications submitted on or before the deadline. The scholarship award will be made payable to the student and the school upon verification of fall term enrollment.

KLAMATH LAKE FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP-The Klamath Lake County Farm Bureau Scholarship is a one-time grant of $500.00. There will be four $500.00 scholarships granted, two in Klamath County and two in Lake County.

  • Applicants must be a graduating high school senior from Klamath or Lake County.
  • Applicant must be preparing to enter a college, university or trade school.
  • Applicant must submit a complete application, two current letters of recommendation, a hand written essay, and a current transcript.

Applications and all supplemental documents must be postmarked on or by May 15, 2019. Mail your application to:

Preference will be given to applicants who are children or grandchildren of Farm Bureau members who are studying in an agriculture related field, and who are 4-H or FFA members. Box 2

OREGON JAYCEE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Up to $2,000 in scholarships will be awarded to several graduating high school seniors in the Class of 2019. The amount of the scholarship is a one time grant and must be used in the year awarded. the final selection of recipients will be based on the following criteria: academic, excellence, personal accomplishments, leadership qualities, and community service.

GPA requirement: applicants mus have at least a 3.75 unweighted GPA to qualify.

Application deadline is April 17, 2019. Applications are available in the guidance office Box 7.

KENO LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP-The Keno Lions Club is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior living within the Keno Elementary attendance area. Applications are due April 15, 2019. Mail to Keno Lions Club. PO Box 491. Keno, OR 97627-0491. Please include a minimum of two letters of reference and current transcripts. If you are attending school outside of your school district or attendance area, a current letter of transfer must be included with this application.
