First Grade

• Counting 0-20

• Adding and Subtracting within 10

• Skip Counting by 1, 5, and 10s

• 1-1 correspondence 

  • Example: being able to show 3 objects for the number 3, as well as being able to count up to 3 with those objects

• Alphabet

  • Able to recognize the sounds of each letter

  • Write the letters of the alphabet (upper and lower)

• Sight word recognition

• Reading: 

  • Parent/student reading daily (out loud if possible)

  • Ask basic questions (who, what, when, where, why, and how)

• Writing: 

  • Being able to write first and last name on a line using primary paper (see link for print)

  • Write simple sentences with sight words (The cat is little.)

• Follow 1 - 2 step directions

• Attending to 5 - 10 minute tasks 

• Practice please and thank you

• Practice tying shoes

Students will have access to ClassLink throughout the summer using their Google email and password.

Unite for Literacy provides free digital access to picture books, narrated in many languages. 

ABCya's games for students in grade 1 are designed to help first graders build their skills in literacy and numeracy.
