Welcome to Mrs. Buzza's Page

Remind App

We are piloting the use of a new tool to communicate with families: an app called Remind. Your child was given a newsletter with information needed to sign up for these messages which can be sent to your phone or email address. I will be using this to send reminders for upcoming tests and important information. If at any time you want to discontinue this service, you may text STOP, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE.

Using Google Docs
We will be using Google Docs extensively this year in third grade! We are so thankful for this opportunity for our students to use the latest tools in Educational Technology.
This year we also have the opportunity to implement GOOGLE CLASSROOM. This is a secure online learning environment that also organizes assignments within Google Docs. One huge benefit to this is that students are able to share writing and projects with each other and collaborate--and no lost papers because copies of students' work are automatically sent to teachers' Google drive as well!
😄

Spelling City
We will be using Spelling City on the iPads and desktop computers to practice spelling and sight words this year. Your child may also access these resources at home. My page is located here: http://www.spellingcity.com/Lbuzza/
You will have to select the correct list to work on.

We are also learning about contractions. Students may review contractions and play games on Spelling City at

READERS' THEATERS

Readers' Theaters are plays that are read aloud rather than memorized. Using these in the classroom helps student develop oral reading fluency and improve comprehension. Students tend to really enjoy this activity and as a result work harder on their reading! Assigned leveled scripts can be found here:

Reader's Theater Scripts

FUN READING LINKS

Below are some reading links that your third grader may enjoy as an alternative to the traditional library book reading experience! Students may count minutes read toward their monthly reading goal!

BOOK FLIX
Book Flix - Students will enjoy reading along with the narrator. Each fictional book is paired with a nonfiction book on a variety of topics such as adventure, animals, music, and biographies. Click the second link to go to the Book Flix site. Students will have to login to InfOhio in order to have remote access to Book Flix and other subscription sites listed.

World Book Reading- A variety of texts are available and are labelled with their lexile. Students may read along, play games, and watch a short phonics lesson.

Tiger Folders
We will  be using agendas this year. Please check Tiger Folders, agendas, and class newsletters for updates and homework assignments.

Reading homework will consist of reading for 20 minutes each night and practicing any sight words sent home. Please note the number of minutes your third grader reads each night on the Reading Homework Chart. This should stay in Tiger Folders and turned in the first day of the next month. This counts as a homework grade.

Students will also be participating in book projects throughout the year. Instructions will be sent with your child in plenty of time to complete these if they are expected to be finished at home.

Spelling homework will consist of practicing spelling words in preparation for our test. Final tests for spelling may or may not land on a Friday as they occur the fifth day of instruction. Dates will be noted on the unit list in your child's Tiger Folder. Changes in test dates will be noted on the Homework sheet inside.

Social Studies homework will consist of unfinished classwork and test study guides.

Scholastic News These are completed together in class as we can access only online.
