Season of Advent means Hope, Peace, Joy and Love!
From all of the volunteers, staff, teachers and faculty here at St. Philip, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Good afternoon, I hope all is well! Here is the Children's Inc. link to the blog post on St. Philip’s school for our service learning project with the "Bag Lady" Shari.

BASKETBALL TEAM PICTURES CANCELLED:
The photo session scheduled for tonight to take basketball team pictures has been cancelled.  Sorry for the short notice.  Boosters will let you know the new date as soon as possible.  It will be after the holidays.

PTC Staggette:  SAVE THE DATE, PTC  will be hosting the Stagette on Sunday, February 11, 2018.  This is a great event attended by many women from the area.  Most importantly, this event raises substantial funds that benefit all the students of St. Philip School through the purchase of textbooks, computers, and classroom supplies.  PTC will need everyone's help to make the stagette a success.  Please plan on attending the PTC meeting this week (12/13 in the Parish Center) to help with the early tasks associated with the Stagette.  If interested in volunteering or if you have any questions, contact Chrissy Saner at csaner@zoomtown.com.

Pajama Drive for Advent: WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!! Fifth and Sixth grade students will be hosting a Pajama drive for Advent.  This has been a very successful service learning project in the past, collecting over 250 pairs of pajamas for distribution to various groups in Campbell County.  Our goal is, once again, 250 pairs of pajamas - all sizes and styles.  Please send new, donated pajamas to school by December 20th for distribution in time for Christmas.  All of the school families are asked to participate.  AS OF TODAY, WE ONLY HAVE 190 PAIRS.  PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING MAKE CHRISTMAS BRIGHTER FOR KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

Student of the week:  At the start of school, Mrs. Mains sent home a questionnaire for each student to complete and send back to school.  Mrs. Mains will use this information to design the student's Student of the Week mini poster, which will be on display in the Cafeteria during the student's special week sometime during the school year.  Parents, you will be notified one week before your son/daughter is the Student of the Week.  During the week, you, or a special guest, are invited to each lunch with your student to recognize his/her week of honor.  Your son/daughter will get to keep his/her mini poster.  Please let your child's teacher know what day you or your son/daughter's special guest will be joining us for lunch.

Student/Teacher of the Week:  These people will be recognized during the week of 12/18:
Kindergarten - Anevay Hackman
1&2 - Caty Tischner
3rd - Cole Mosteller
4th - Samantha Kluesner
7th  - Morgan Kramer
8th -  Kaleb Lukes
Teacher/Staff - Mrs. Theresa Frilling

CHRISTMAS PLAY AND CONCERT:  Once again, all of the students of St. Philip School will be showing their musical talents while marking the Christmas season with a performance of festive songs on Thursday, December 14th at 7:00 in the Parish Center.  Student performers are expected to be in the Parish Center no later than 6:45 pm for the concert.  Dress for this event is "Sunday best with Christmas flair."  Invite your family members and friends along to enjoy the many musical talents our young people have to share as we await the birth of Jesus Christ.

NEW HOPE FOOD PANTRY:  We need your help!  We will be volunteering Saturday, December 16th at the New Hope Food Pantry, located at Immanuel's New Hope Ministry Center, 22 William Blatt Avenue, Southgate (near St. Therese).  We will be meeting in the Saint Therese parking lot (the large lot past the gym).  We will meet there at 8:30 and walk to the Food Pantry.  Dress for the cold morning - layers with St. Philip Hoodies are perfect, along with gloves and scarves.  We will return to St. Therese around 12:00.  Please remember groups of volunteers may arrive a little late or leave early.  All volunteers are appreciated!

CHRISTMAS GIFTS:  During the Advent and Christmas time, it is especially important for us to remember those who serve the parish on a day-to-day basis:  Father Bob Rottgers and Sr. Delores Gohs.  They are at the church or around the parish facilities preparing the space for use and/or greeting the people.  As a parish family, let us collect money in recognition of their tireless effort.  If you would like, place a small contribution in an envelope and mark it for "Christmas Gifts for Religious."  The money collected will be divided between Fr. Bob and Sr. Delores and presented at the All-School Mass on December 22nd at 8:30 a.m.

INCLEMENT WEATHER:  IF WE NEED TO CALL OFF OR DELAY SCHOOL, I WILL SEND A VOICE MESSAGE TO YOUR HOME/CELL AND EMAIL THROUGH SCHOOL MESSENGER.   (Please make sure this information is correct on Sycamore Student Management System.) In addition, I will request the television and radio stations to run school closing information for "St. Philip-Melbourne."  Look and/or listen for this information on WKRC Local 12, WCPO ch. 9, WLWT ch.5, and WXIX ch. 19, as well as local radio stations.  Remember, we will not always follow Campbell County Schools.  If at any time you feel it to be unsafe for you to travel to St. Philip School due to weather conditions, do not bring your child/children to school.  Students will be simply marked absent.  Safety comes first.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS:  Have you ever considered working with children?  Would you consider this if you knew that you would be paid for the day?  I am talking 1-2 days at a time, in most cases, and the day is already planned.  St. Philip School is in need of substitute teachers to build our call list.  You must be VIRTUS trained and in compliance with the diocesan safe environment regulations.  If you are interested, please call Mrs. Brewer, school principal, at 441-3423 ext. 4 or email at kbrewer@stphilipky.org for more information.

VIRTUS-SAFE ENVIRONMENT:     To volunteer at St. Philip Parish in any way that involves children, any adult must be in compliance with VIRTUS.  You must attend a VIRTUS training session, read and sign a Policies and Procedures statement, and complete a background check application.  This process (class attendance and background check) will take a month or more to complete.  Register at www.covdio.org, at the Child and Youth Protection site or find another class to attend.  Classes are available around the diocese throughout the year.  Click on the dates and times of training.  Follow the directions at that point.  After attending the 3-hour training, you will be assigned monthly bulletins.  Bulletins are placed on the accounts on the first Sunday of the month, after 6:00 PM.  To stay in compliance, process each bulletin within 30 days.  If you do not complete your bulletin in 30 days, you will be suspended and will need to wait for the quarterly suspension release.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: St. Philip School is always in need of volunteers.  Remember, you must be VIRTUS trained and in compliance with all Diocesan Safe Environment guidelines.  We need your help in these areas: library, school office, cafeteria helper (contact Mrs. Steelman, Cafeteria Manager), teacher’s aides: help out with weekly skills assessment, computer class, and gym class.  Mrs. Steelman needs volunteers immediately in the cafeteria. Call or email me for information (441-3423 ext. 4 or kbrewer@stphilipky.org).

SCHOOL SUPPORT: Many easy ways to support the school would be to collect Box-tops, Labels for Education, Sunny D labels, Tyson Food product labels, County Market receipts, and recycle aluminum cans.  All of these items will benefit St. Philip School.  Send your labels/tabs/receipts into the office and we will turn them into money.  Bonus Box-tops are on many products and offered by stores like Meijers as part of Back-to-School. Look for information at your local grocery store.  ALL BOX-TOPS HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE, including Bonus Box-Tops.  Please trim your Box-tops and labels.  We must pay postage to mail these items into the company. Grocery receipts, paper and aluminum will be processed in bulk and cashed in at the specific facility throughout the school year.
