In-School Sports Activities and Kiwisport

KiwiSport is a government-funded initiative administered by Counties Manukau Sport to increase participation in sport for school-aged children.

What are the KiwiSport Objectives?

The 3 main objectives are:

More Kids – Increase the number of school-aged children participating in organised sport during school, after school and by strengthening links with Sports Clubs.
More Opportunities – Increase the availability and accessibility of sports opportunities for all school-aged children.
Better Skills – Support children in developing skills that will enable them to participate effectively in a sport at both primary and secondary school level.

School Run Sports

Generally, the in-school sports events will run leading up to an Inter-school Tamaki Cluster event/tournament. For example, we hold an Athletics sports event prior to the Tamaki Cluster Athletics Day happening. This enables us to select the learners to go forth and compete for the school.

We will also endeavour to hold as many skills-building sessions/practices as possible prior to the school event.

Stonefields School Sports Events are:
  • Swimming Sports
  • Duathlon
  • Cross Country Run
  • Athletics Day
See the calendar below for more information, times, dates and details of sports run at Stonefields School that will also follow on to a Tamaki cluster tournament event.

There is also a "Clubs" page where you can find information on local sports clubs.

Inter School Tamaki Cluster Events and Tournaments

The Tamaki cluster PE and sporting events centre around equity and equal opportunity for all learners to be included in sporting events, regardless of skill level or experience.

Programmes and support are available to the Primary Schools that fall within certain local boards’ boundaries.
On offer is a PE curriculum support in planning the delivery of fundamental skills programme to students and teachers via the Athletics NZ Get Set Go programme and KiwiSport projects.

Targeted Communities Approach

Stonefields School falls under the Tamaki Cluster (Maungakiemaki-Tamaki Local Board).
The role of Sport NZ in these clusters involves...
  • Aiming to increase fundamental skills in preschool-aged children.
  • Delivering Active Movement sessions and teacher professional development.
  • Increasing basic sports skills in primary school aged children.
  • Managing KiwiSport funded programmes and the Athletics NZ Get Set Go initiative.
  • Increasing youth participation in creating school/club links within our communities.
  • Delivering Sport Club development – refer to Community Sport Page.
