Update 20 - 29 November, 2018

Staffing for 2019

We are delighted to communicate with you that we are now fully staffed for 2019.  Whilst it is always wonderful to welcome new people into our school community, inevitably this means we need to say goodbye to some. We know that you will join with us in wishing all our leavers the very best in their next endeavours. Please click here to read details around staffing.

School Structure for 2019

Stonefields School has many advantages when it comes to organising learners into Hubs. Possible friendship combinations are 3x greater with 3x more learners in a Hub. Our learners also benefit from having 2, 3 or 4 teachers with multiple strengths. The potential for a child to have a positive experience and connect with at least one teacher is high, the reality of a child having a bad year because they don’t get on with their teacher just doesn’t happen at Stonefields School. Learners are asked to consider friendships and positive learning relationships that they would like to be placed with. Leaders and teachers take many elements into consideration and spend considerable time placing children in hubs to ensure friendship combinations and learning focussed relationships flourish.

Stonefields School, since opening, has grouped Hubs in multi-year levels. The school advocates for learners experiencing being both the youngest and oldest in a learning Hub throughout their 8 years at Stonefields. Importantly, different skills, dispositions and values are acquired by experiencing collaboration as both the youngest and oldest in a Hub group.

Your child will visit their new Hub Friday 7 December and meet some of their teachers for 2019.

As you will see below all Hubs expect the year 7/8 in Hub 5 and year 4 - 6 in Hub 9 will be part of a schoolwide move on the 17th December. Details of the move are in the diary dates below, we would love your help if you are available.

Devices for Learners 2019

We are fortunate to be a part of Manaiakalani.  Each fortnight throughout the year a group of techies meet to test devices and solve technical problems. Throughout the latter part of the year, they have been testing various chrome books and tablet devices to see which devices have the best functionality, battery life and are sturdy in order to make the best decision about the 2019 device.

Purchase through Manaiakalani only

At Stonefields School in Year 4 - 8 we ask that parents purchase the chosen device through Manaiakalani. It is important that families buy this device through Manaiakalani rather than purchasing elsewhere; while cheaper deals can be found, they do not include all the added extras, for example, the sturdy case, warranty and onsite break/fix service. The devices provided by Manaiakalani also have crucial software installed, that cannot be purchased at a shop, enabling the Chromebook to be managed by the school. Therefore, please do not purchase the device elsewhere, order through Manaiakalani here.

2019 Device Package - $530.00

Purchase comprises a ‘bundle’ that includes:
  • Acer C732 Chromebook
  • 3-Year manufacturer’s warranty (starts Jan 2019)
  • Google Chrome Management Console
  • hard shell carry case
  • 3-Year Vero Material Damage Insurance (starts Jan 2019)
Devices for Year 4 in 2019

Please note that if your child will be in Year 4 in 2019 we strongly encourage you to purchase a chromebook.  Please click here for details.

Devices for Year 7 in 2019

For learners who are going to be in Year 7 in 2019, your chrome books will be out of warranty and we highly recommend you purchase a new device package as detailed above.  Please click here for further details.

Year 1 - 3 iPad Initiative

During 2019, Stonefields School will continue to support the 1:1 iPad initiative. We will be holding parent information sessions in the new year and we welcome you all to attend. These will be advertised through the parent communication updates. Parents are asked to pay a $50 contribution for the year to help fund the initiative. Please click here for further details.

Stonefields Kapa Haka

Our very own Kapa Haka learners, parents and teachers braved the wild weather last weekend to perform at the inaugural Kōtuku Festival, held at Ruapōtaka Marae in Glen Innes. We were thrilled to be invited to perform and the learners certainly made us proud! A massive thanks to our parent volunteers who helped dress the group on the day – with a special mention to Diana Harrison and Theresa Fox who made belts for the boys woven from harakeke (flax) grown at school. You can view pictures from the day here. Everyone is welcome at kapa haka - come and join us at 8:00am Wednesdays, or to find out more visit our page here.

Living Eggs Program in Hub 1 and Hub 2

Our Stonefields chicks hatched! The learners in Hubs 1 and 2 have thoroughly enjoyed having this program and watching the chicks hatch was an amazing and inspiring learning experience for them all. It touches everyone’s heart to see a chick hatching no matter how young or old! To see the chicks hatch click here.

Scholastic Book Club

This is your last chance to place a Scholastic book order for 2018. Issue no.8 2018 is now open, but you'll need to get your order in before Monday 3 December to ensure you get your books before school finishes for the year. The ordering process is completely paperless, and the current brochure is available to view here. There are paper copies of the Book Club catalogue in the library if you prefer to view the catalogue in paper form.

To place your order, please register using the LOOP website. You may then order on the website, or by using one of Scholastic's apps. Please do not return anything to school as all orders are processed through the LOOP system.

Remember, book orders close this Monday, 3rd December. If you have any problems, please see Anna in the library on Tuesday or Thursday, or email anna.malan@stonefields.school.nz

All library books due back and library closed for stocktake

Please ensure all Stonefields School library books are returned to the library by Monday 3 December so the stocktake may happen as planned.

The library will be closed from Monday 3 December until school finishes for the year.

As we encourage children to self-issue/return their own library books, mistakes do happen. For example, books may not be scanned back into the library correctly, books may be put directly on the shelf rather than being scanned back, library books may have accidentally been "returned to the hub library" by mistake, or books may have been issued to the wrong person. Please remind your children to return their library books to the "big red returns box" inside the door of the library. If you receive a reminder notice for a book that you are certain your child has already returned, or they never had on issue, please email anna.malan@stonefields.school.nz or call into the library on a Tuesday or Thursday to solve the issue.
