Our library is doing what we do best… making sure our students have good books, good technology, and good information skills available to them.

Summer Reading at

ST. THOMAS MORE

(By sending the picture your parents grant permission for the library to post your picture on the St. Thomas More web site.)

Four or five of the most unusual photo locations will be awarded a prize and their photo will appear in the Library News communication.

Our judge will be from another school in our area.

All pictures are due to Mrs. Fontenot by August 21, 2017; 3PM.

HAPPY READING “thank you”

TO: The Webber family who donated wonderful Skippyjon Jones hardback books to our library collection. Look for these “new to you” books after Labor Day.

QUESTION: Were you an "eNthusiastic" summer reader?

Did you strike out boredom by participating in a 2017 Summer Reading Program at a public library?

If you received a Texas Reading Club certificate from any 2017 Summer Reading Program at a Public Library please show it to Mrs. Fontenot. Students, by their participation in any Summer Reading Program at a Public Library, may earn 5pts. toward their individual Accelerated Reader points. (Students must take any two AR Quizzes to qualify for these AR bonus points.)

Students 1st -8th are eligible for these points, see Mrs. Fontenot for details.

Our Accelerated Reader program helps students, 1st – 8th,

read books of interest at their own level. Students select fiction and nonfiction books that are difficult enough to be challenging, but not too difficult to cause frustration. After reading a book students may take an AR quiz in the library and receive the assigned points.

There are AR Quizzes for over 150,000 titles.

After Labor Day, our library is open till 4PM on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for students to take quizzes. A parent is asked to come with the student during quiz time.

Boys Mini Librarians Pizza Party :

We will celebrate a year’s worth of work at a pizza party on the pre-school playground from 3:20 – 4:00 J Wednesday, April 26th.

Junior Librarians Pizza Party: There’s nothing like celebrating a year’s worth of hard work at an end-of-the-year pizza party. Meet in the library from 3:20 – 4:00 J Thursday, April 27th.

Thursday, April 27th. our fourth graders will participate in The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum presentation of Musical Storytelling, a VIDEOCONFERENCE program featuring presenter and

and singer Bobbee Pennington, a song writer and a Youth Services Librarian at the Clara Mounce Public Library in Bryan, Texas. Highlights from President Bush's childhood and youth will inspire students to consider how to grow up to be president or how to be the best citizen possible. The stories and songs enhance the theme of character development. Joining together in music, movement and folktales "with a twist" help meet several curriculum standards. Thank you Mrs. Roby for making possible this distinctive event.

If you’d like to share this special time in the library with our 4th grade teachers and students, email Mrs. Fontenot and she’ll save a “standing-room space” for you.

The “end-of-the-year” Accelerated Reader General Store will be open May 1 – 5, 2017 for students to trade their points for prizes.

Since the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, many “eNthusiastic" students have successfully passed at least eight Accelerated Reader on-line quizzes on their grade level.

Eight on-line computer quizzes are required for students to receive full credit for each stamp on their library bookmark. The bookmark points are added to the points received from on-line quizzes and those determine the total points a student may “spend” at the General Store.

Watch for pictures of the students in each grade level who have accumulated the most AR quiz points. They’ll visit the store on Monday.

Tuesday afternoon boys and girls were found trying out treats and toys and treasures that will be displayed beginning May 1 – 5, 2017 in the Accelerated Reader General Store.

Speaking of checking out….Look at these new books purchased from the Book Fair and on line; they’re processed and ready

for check before summer vacation begins.

As a book fair volunteer.

You truly made our library buzz & twirl with excitement.

Thank you to all parents, grandparents, students and staff who participated in the STM 2017 Book Fair. Our fair was a reading success in getting books into the hands of children. Proceeds will be used to expand our general fiction and non-fiction sections. Our fair would not be possible without all the help we have in setting up, running the fair, manning the Open House evening event, and boxing-up books on Friday. Enthusiastic volunteers made our work light, added joy to the students’ reading experiences, and students were helped in loving ways.

Thank you to everyone who helped in any way with our Book Fair.

The lucky student whose name was drawn from the Book Fair participants is Kessia Kurian. She’ll select a book as her gift

from the library’s treasury of books.

The Bode, Coco, Touma, and Webber families for donating books to our general fiction and/or creative fun items for our AR General Store.
