Alive with our mission...We, the pastor, staff, and parents of St. Thomas More Parish School, are committed to developing the minds, hearts, and souls of our students. By planting faith-filled seeds of good habits, we open our students’ minds to knowledge, their hearts to service, and their souls to the beauty of God’s Creation.

Dear Parents,

Greetings to you all! I am delighted to welcome you to the 2016 - 2017 school year and hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing summer.  My name is Shellie Abrameit, and I will be teaching Reading, English, and Creative Writing for the Second and Third grade.

We will be using the Scott Foresman reading series for both 2nd and 3rd grade.  I am certain the students will enjoy all of the stories which will include fiction as well as informational texts.

All of my students in each grade level will participate in silent as well as oral reading with comprehension assessments for each story, and both reading groups will cover several novels this year which will encourage their interest in reading for pleasure.

My main goal is to ensure our children will achieve their highest potential and discover the joy of reading. I recognize that in order to be successful in the classroom they will need support from both the home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. I ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she reads daily to help develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills.

Second Grade:  We will be using GUM (Grammer, Usage, and Mechanics) by Zaner Bloser

Third Grade:  We will be using Voyages in English by Loyola Press

Creative Writing

The ability to write is such an important component to a child's ongoing academic success and the good news is that writing is a skill which can be learned like any other.  My Second and Third grade students will be expected to write short stories using some of the weekly vocab, create personal narratives, and summarize stories as well as other exciting Creative Writing lessons.  The student's work will be filed in a writing portfolio and returned at the end of the year.

For any questions or comments you might have, please feel free to email me at sabrameit@stmorenews.com.  or you may call the school directly at 7137293434 and ask to leave a message in my voice mailbox.   Please help support your child’s learning experience by encouraging them to read at home and may God bless all of our efforts. See you soon!
